Global Capitalism

By Andrew Rimas | Boston Magazine |

Dense stuff, but this book is a rewarding survey of 20th-century economic history. Harvard's Frieden has penned a definitive account of globalization, from its rise before the First World War to its collapse between 1914 and 1945, to its rebirth at the end of the century. Less satisfying are his insights into a future where globalization seems murky, for Frieden is too levelheaded a historian and too committed a believer in open markets to light any firebrands.
