Clothing boutique owners Tess Enright and Carlos Pava have set out to disprove the notion that pasta sauce and high fashion don’t mix. At their 40-seat Restaurant Pava, located beside their swanky Newton Centre store Tess and Carlos, a black-clad waitstaff, minimalist décor, and views of next door’s couture complement the innovative Mediterranean menu, courtesy of another credentialed pair: Susan Regis (UpStairs on the Square) and Jason Bond (No. 9 Park). Stylish Newtonites have flocked to Pava for its fresh and unusual dishes. Some remain works in progress, but the duck confit stuffed with sweet raisins and wrapped in radicchio is sublime, and the beet chittara—homemade pasta mixed with beets, candied ginger, and shredded short rib—was as vibrant on the palate as on the plate. If you order just one thing, make it that dish. But in the name of fashion, you’d be wise to leave your white Armani pants at home.
