City Style: What's In Store

Megachains for the Clearasil set may be crowding Newbury Street, but they aren’t the only ones staking claims. Chic local women’s clothier Tess & Carlos has opened up shop at 141A Newbury, providing a much needed revival of the street’s sophisticated, upscale bent.

Megachains for the Clearasil set may be crowding Newbury Street, but they aren’t the only ones staking claims. Chic local women’s clothier Tess & Carlos has opened up shop at 141A Newbury, providing a much needed revival of the street’s sophisticated, upscale bent. Like its sister outposts in Cambridge and Newton Centre, this T & C stocks polished workday wares that don’t sacrifice up-to-the-minute style, including elegant dresses and smart suiting from Neal Sperling and D. Bensussan, as well as knockout coats from Hache (one of the boutique’s exclusive lines). The well-lit, well-designed space and approachable staff make browsing its neatly displayed inventory of clothing and accessories feel like a grown-up outing—not an Ashlee Simpson concert.
