Clothesing Statements

It passed by as quickly as an overzealous runway turn: Boston Fashion Week 2010 spanned eight days in September and left us dizzy with mental snapshots. Here’s our rundown of the biggest shows — the good, the bad, and the downright ugly.

THE SHOW
1. Chic: Cure Her in Couture
THE SETUP
A highly styled mash-up of global designers and Stuart Weitzman shoes, chased with a round of eveningwear by local golden boy Michael De Paulo.
THE BEST MOMENT
De Paulo’s delicious white-and-black-trimmed floor-length gown.
THE WORST MOMENT
The Weitzman show’s ultra-angry models. We know it’s tough to be 19, leggy, and hot, but do you have to stare down the audience like they just stole your Fen-Phen?

THE SHOW
2. The Launch
THE SETUP
A mix of first collections by five local up-and-comers.
THE BEST MOMENT
Victoria Dominguez-Bagu’s plum dress and Victorian coat; Samira Vargas’s glam (and gutsy) cowgirl takes.
THE WORST MOMENT
Two words: wardrobe malfunctions

THE SHOW

3. Sam Mendoza
THE SETUP
An installation of models lounging in slow motion across what appeared to be an opium den.
THE BEST MOMENT
The oh-so-cool, True Blood-meets-Sleep No More vibe.
THE WORST MOMENT
Not sure; the lighting was too dim to actually see many clothes.

THE SHOW

4. Nirva Derbekyan
THE SETUP
Pretty frocks in Mizu’s space-age salon.
THE BEST MOMENT
Derbekyan’s long, Missoni-esque sheath topped with acid-yellow straps.
THE WORST MOMENT
Watching the team struggle to hang the runway sign five minutes before the show.

THE SHOW

5. Genuine Bespoke
THE SETUP
A roster of custom-made menswear by Jeff Lahens at Shreve, Crump & Low.
THE BEST MOMENT
Splendid sport-coat linings — from fuchsia satin paisley to embroidered Red Sox insignias.
THE WORST MOMENT
Lahens’s expert work deserves a real runway.

THE SHOW
6. Daniela Corte
THE SETUP
A professionally executed rollout as explosive, stylized, and sexed-up as Chicago.
THE BEST MOMENT
Model Katelyn Loren’s high-speed, (nearly) bare-tushed opening strut to Joan Jett’s "Bad Reputation."
THE WORST MOMENT
Clothes? What clothes?
