[sidebar]AN EXHAUSTED INVESTMENT BANKER who hadn’t experienced life outside the office in far too long, Michael Nurick let a friend drag him to a birthday party in 2006 — and the rest is history.

Instantly smitten with Sapna Patel, the birthday girl, he engineered a few casual run-ins before eventually taking her to New York’s Museum of Modern Art. After several glasses of wine, he asked her for a second date. Sapna accepted, because, she says, “He was awkward, but he was a really nice guy. He talked about all sorts of geeky boy topics — but I found it endearing.”

Any awkwardness quickly evaporated, and four years later Michael proposed. Though the couple resides in New York City, they wanted a New England wedding, and the historical charm of Wentworth by the Sea, a 138-year-old hotel on the New Hampshire seacoast, immediately won them over.

The pair said “I do” in a ceremony that combined their Hindu and Jewish traditions.“We didn’t have any grand vision of what a wedding should be,” says Sapna. “Our goal was just to make sure everyone had an amazing time.”
