JAMES BURNETT, EDITOR
Burnett joined Boston magazine in 2002 after starting his career in New York, where he was a staff writer at George and contributing editor at the ASME award–nominated law-student lifestyle magazine Jungle Law. His writing has appeared in Details, New York, Rolling Stone, Runner’s World, and the British soccer glossy Four Four Two. He won a gold medal for reader service in the 2003 City and Regional Magazine Awards.

ROBERT PARSONS, CREATIVE DIRECTOR
Parsons majored in English at the University of New Hampshire, intending to become a journalist. But his first job found him less interested in writing copy (which, it turned out, he was never very good at) than in designing space for it. He has since worked in the art departments of the Atlantic Monthly and the music magazine Lollipop, and served as assistant art director at Cook’s Illustrated and associate art director at Natural Health before joining Boston magazine as art director in 2001. He’s won design awards from the Society of Publication Designers, the City and Regional Magazine Association, Communication Arts, Print, American Photography, and American Illustration.

ALYSSA GIACOBBE, STYLE DIRECTOR
A former editor for Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and Teen Vogue, and part of the original staff hired to launch celebrity mag In Touch Weekly, Giacobbe joined Boston magazine in 2005. She is a columnist for Martha Stewart’s Body + Soul and has written for publications including Lucky, Self, the New York Times, and Forbes Life. A native New Englander, Giacobbe is currently completing her yoga teacher certification with the National Yoga Alliance.

image JENNIFER L. JOHNSON, MANAGING EDITOR
After a decade spent in newspapers, Johnson joined Boston magazine full time as online editor in 2006, and became managing editor later that year. Since college she’s lived and worked across the country—challenging friends, family, and the U.S. Post Office with more than a dozen change-of-address forms to date—but has stayed put in Boston for more than five years, a personal best. Before joining Boston she freelanced as a copy editor/writer for publications including the Boston Herald, the Boston Phoenix, and Technology Review.

GEOFFREY GAGNON, SENIOR EDITOR
Gagnon was previously managing editor of Legal Affairs, a national general-interest magazine, where he wrote about culture and ideas. His writing has appeared in Newsweek, Wired, and Best Life, among other publications. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan.

PAUL KIX, SENIOR EDITOR
Kix came to Boston from Dallas, where he was an associate editor at D Magazine, the city monthly there. His story “Framed,” for which he found evidence that a man serving a life sentence for murder didn’t do the crime, won the silver medal for reporting in the 2007 City and Regional Magazine Awards. A graduate of Iowa State University, he has also written for the Chicago Tribune and ESPN the Magazine.

JOHN WOLFSON, SENIOR EDITOR
A native New Englander, Wolfson joined Boston magazine in 2004 after writing for several newspapers, including the Seattle Times and the Orlando Sentinel. His story "The Great Harvard Drug Scandal" won the gold medal for reporting in the 2006 City and Regional Magazine Awards. He holds a degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, and his writing has appeared in Wired magazine, the New York Times, and Legal Affairs magazine.

image PAUL FLANNERY, ONLINE EDITOR
Flannery joined the staff of Boston after a 10-year journalistic odyssey during which he covered rodeos in Idaho, professional sports in Philadelphia, and everything in between. After working as a sportswriter and columnist for several publications, a few of which no longer exist, he left newspapers to become Boston’s online editor in summer 2006. A graduate of Drew University who also holds a master’s degree in journalism from Boston University, Flannery has written for the Associated Press and Philadelphia Style, among others.

image AMY TRAVERSO, FOOD EDITOR
Traverso returned to Boston in July 2007 after spending two years in San Francisco, where she was a food editor at Sunset magazine. Previously, she was food editor of Yankee magazine and, before that, a staff writer for Boston. She has been a featured speaker at the Greenbrier Symposium for Professional Food Writers and costarred in the television series On the Menu for WGBY, a PBS affiliate. Her work has appeared in the Boston Globe, Cond Nast Traveler, and Salon, among others.

JASON FEIFER, ASSOCIATE EDITOR
Before joining Boston to oversee its City Journal section, Feifer was a reporter for the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. He's also worked as a full-time freelancer, and has written for the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Salon. He shared screen-time with Ben Affleck in Jersey Girl: Affleck was in the foreground, and Feifer was an extra in the way, way, way back. You can't really see him, but he's there.

RACHEL BAKER, ASSISTANT EDITOR
A native of Mississippi, Baker edits the City Style section of the magazine and is also plugged into the local music scene. The Boston University graduate has worked at Nickelodeon magazine and Details, and her writing has appeared in the Improper Bostonian and on Spin.com.

image JOE KEOHANE, STAFF WRITER
A former hotel employee, bookseller, gas-pumper, musician, and office drone, Keohane joined the staff of Boston in 2007 after serving as editor in chief of Boston's Weekly Dig, an award-winning alt-weekly, for four years. The native Bostonian’s writing has also appeared in the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, the Boston Phoenix, and other publications, and he served as the editor in chief for the first four issues of BeerAdvocate, a national beer magazine, in 2006–2007.

image JOHN GONZALEZ, SENIOR WRITER
Gonzalez wrote for the Philadelphia Inquirer, among other publications, before leaving his hometown of Philly for Dallas, where he was an award-winning writer at the Dallas Observer. He has been a finalist for the Livingston Award, the premier prize for journalists under 35, and has covered such disparate topics as the swift-boat controversy that dogged John Kerry and competitive wing-eating. Gonzalez also ran for U.S. Congress in his Texas district, and later wrote a story about his third-party candidacy and the death of grassroots politics. He lost, which was probably good for the Republic. Still, more than 6,000 Texans wanted Gonz to represent them in Washington. We can’t begin to tell you how frightening that is.

AMY DERJUE, STAFF WRITER
Derjue joined Boston magazine in 2007 and is the primary blogger for Boston Daily. A native Rhode Islander and graduate of Emerson College, she spent several years editing textbooks and writing about life in Boston for her blog, Pasquinade.

image
JASON SCHWARTZ, EDITORIAL ASSISTANT
The Newton native joined the Boston staff in the summer of 2007, and contributes both to the magazine and Boston Daily blog. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied history and wrote for the student newspaper, the Daily Pennsylvanian. His writing has also appeared in the Boston Globe, the Patriot Ledger, the Pennsylvania Gazette, and New Jersey Monthly. Additionally, Schwartz has fond memories of the 1996 Final Four UMass men’s basketball team and has a soft spot for former Celtic Dino Radja, if anyone would care to discuss.

BRITTANY JASNOFF, ASSISTANT MANAGING EDITOR
Hailing from a sleepy Philadelphia suburb, Jasnoff fell head over heels for Boston after moving here to attend BU. She first worked for Boston magazine as an intern in the editorial and online departments, then joined the staff full time in December 2007. As assistant managing editor, she works with both the editorial and art departments in the production of Boston and its branded publications, and also writes for the monthly magazine and its news, style, and food blogs. Her resume includes a stint covering the critter realm for the New York–based magazine Animal Fair.

JAMIE BELLAVANCE, ASSISTANT ONLINE EDITOR
Bellavance not only manages the entertainment listings for the website, she also produces and edits our email newsletters. Originally from Methuen, MA, she returned home after spending more than two years as the assistant online editor at Men’s Health, where, oddly enough, she would receive a lot of mail addressed to a Mr. Bellavance. A 2004 graduate of Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School, Jamie has also worked as a newspaper reporter for The Eagle Tribune. She began her magazine career as an intern at the Improper Bostonian.

ART

CAROLYN MARSDEN, ART + PHOTO ASSISTANT
Marsden coordinates art research and photo shoots, as well as designs pages, for Boston magazine, Boston Home, Boston Weddings, and New England Travel. Raised in Lincoln, she attended Dartmouth College, majoring in studio art with a concentration in photography. A former art department intern at Boston magazine, she is also an art photographer, painter, and otherwise creative type, and takes classes at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

LAUREN CLARK, ASSOCIATE ART DIRECTOR
Before landing at Boston magazine, Clark accomplished the impossible: moving six times in nine months without (for the most part) losing her mind. After working as production manager and art director at Aspen Magazine in Colorado, as well as dabbling in the advertising world, she ventured east to freelance for Town & Country magazine and the award-winning design firm Blue Cup Creative. As a native Floridian in Boston, she hasn’t quite gotten used to not being able to wear flip-flops 360-plus days a year—and is now taking recommendations for good shoe stores.

RESEARCH

MATTHEW REED BAKER, RESEARCH EDITOR
Previously research editor for ForbesLife, Baker has also worked as a staff writer at Brill’s Content, and as a researcher and copy editor for such publications as National Journal, Rolling Stone, and Rick Steves’s travel books.

FRANCIS STORRS, ASSOCIATE RESEARCH EDITOR
Storrs, a native of Connecticut, joined the magazine staff in 2007 after several years as a freelance contributor. He has a master’s degree in English from Boston College, where he taught freshman writing, and his work has appeared in Boston Home and the Weekly Dig. His story for this magazine on unscrupulous real estate professionals, "Double Agents," earned him an award from the National Association of Real Estate Editors.

SPECIAL PROJECTS

JULIE SURATT, EXECUTIVE EDITOR
After taking a year off to care for her twin baby boys, Suratt recently rejoined the staff as executive editor of Boston Home, Boston Weddings, and New England Travel. In her pre-mom life, she was managing editor at Boston magazine. Her career began in Osaka, Japan, where she taught English to junior high students. When she returned to the States, she took a job as staff writer at Destinations magazine in Washington, DC; three years later, she moved north to join the staff at the Improper Bostonian as calendar editor, eventually rising to the level of managing editor. She made the leap to Boston in 2003. A graduate of Tufts University, Suratt has written for the Boston Globe, the Boston Phoenix, Gazette newspapers, and Cosmopolitan magazine.

SASCHA de GERSDORFF, FEATURES EDITOR
De Gersdorff joined Boston magazine in 2005 as the editor of the City Style section. She ran the annual Best of Boston issue and wrote travel, design, health, and style stories regularly before becoming a features editor and the editor of the relaunched New England Travel. She has worked as a Washington correspondent, business reporter, and lifestyle writer, and holds a master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism. De Gersdorff has lived in five U.S. cities and three foreign countries, and has edited and written for the San Francisco Chronicle, the Associated Press, Body + Soul, Self, and Travel + Leisure.

RACHEL LEVITT, HOME DESIGN EDITOR
As the new editor of Boston Home—formerly Boston Home & Garden—Levitt draws on her experience as a designer and writer to show how the best homes in Massachusetts are not just beautiful, but also skillfully reflect their owners’ unique lifestyles. After getting her master’s in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, she worked at the award-winning Boston architecture firm Leers Weinzapfel Associates. Five years into her architecture career, though, she realized that writing about great projects was more fun than designing. Levitt, who lives in Cambridge and Maine, is also on faculty at Northeastern University. An avid bicycle commuter and a rower at dawn on the Charles River, she’s clearly a masochist, too.

DONNA GARLOUGH, SENIOR EDITOR
Before taking over the reins as editor of the newly redesigned Boston Weddings, Garlough spent a year freelancing, during which she cowrote and edited a book on green living for National Geographic. She had worked previously as beauty, home, and style editor at Martha Stewart's Body + Soul magazine. A rabid fan of Julia Child, Dior mascara, and home renovation, Garlough also contributes to Boston Home, New England Travel, and the food section of Boston magazine. The California native received her B.A. from Cornell University, and will happily admit that her most valued course was Hotel Administration 430, or Introduction to Wines.

BRIGID SWEENEY, WRITER + RESEARCHER
Sweeney joined Boston in August 2007 as a writer and researcher for Boston Home, Boston Weddings, and New England Travel. Previously, she worked at Chicago magazine and as a Washington correspondent for an Indiana newspaper. A native Chicagoan, she holds a master's degree from Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism.
