CLIP CAREFULLY

Nails that are too short can be just as bad as ones that are too long. Long nails will bump against your sneaker, bruise, and turn a lovely shade of black, but overly clipped ones may become ingrown and infected. Be sure to cut straight across the edge of the toe.

ROUGH IT UP

Never razor or overfile calluses. "Calluses grow for a reason," Phoenix says. "They're protecting your pressure points." File them gently to remove dead skin.

DITCH THE CHEMICALS

Regular polishes often contain two known carcinogens. Choose healthier, eco-friendly polishes from brands like Zoya and Nubar instead.
