From Bad to Verse

Words from poets who didn't know it.

Massachusetts has long produced wordsmiths, a group that will be lauded at the state's first-ever poetry festival, set for 10/10–10/12 in Lowell. To get in the mood, we asked some decided non-poets to write haikus.

Hank Phillippi Ryan, Channel 7 reporter:
City Hall Plaza
Frozen tundra, bleak and flat
Can we start from scratch?

Michael Goldman, Democratic strategist and senior consultant at Government Insight Group:
Mitt Romney in tears
Alaska Miss triumphant
Damn, back to Utah

Bernie and Phyllis Rubin, founders of Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture:
We love our Boston
Quality, comfort, and price
Have a seat, it’s nice*

*An entry so absolutely shameless, we had to run it.
