As declining newspaper fortunes—given a further rude push by the recent market meltdown—were shuttering overseas bureaus, Charlie Sennott saw the light come on. Saying he'd arrived back in the U.S. to find 'the economy had really changed for newspapers in a way I hadn't realized," the award-winning Globe foreign correspondent got to work on a solution. It launches on 1/12 as GlobalPost: the first Web-based news organization offering daily international coverage.

Cocreated with NECN founder Phil Balboni, GlobalPost plans to maintain at least 70 correspondents in 53 countries, all of whom will blog, post videos, and file weekly dispatches from the field. Though the site's reach stretches from Colombia to Pakistan to Australia, Sennott, a Bay State native, takes particular pride in establishing its headquarters here. 'It's a very international city…that's one of the great things about Boston that we don't want to see lost."
