BOSTON IS A pet owner’s dream — great vets, shops, sitters, walkers, groomers, and adventures (hello, Harbor Islands dog cruise!). How do we know? We polled hundreds of readers for their favorites and tested services and products across the city in order to bring you the go-to guide for pet love in the Hub.

Resources: Our editors' go-to guide for animal essentials in the Hub.

Healthcare: A look at the city’s make-it-all-better mecca, plus some of our favorite local vets and a Q & A with Dr. Nick Trout, author of Love Is the Best Medicine.

Playtime: Great outings with your dog, and a curated calendar of pet-friendly events.

Pampering: One-of-a-kind ways to spoil ’em rotten. Bonus: A pet photography portfolio.

Photo album: Snapshots of notable Bostonians and their pets, plus some of our favorite outtakes.

Expert advice: Is pet insurance right for you? Can you teach an old dog new tricks? We ask; local pros answer.

The Pet Survey: Results from Boston’s exclusive online poll of animal lovers. Bonus: Who owns what on Beacon Hill.

Two Great Dog Parks in Metro West
Posted by John Bell | Aug. 22, 2010 at 5:06 PM
COMMENT:
Two great dog parks in the Metro West Area. First, there is the wonderful Great Meadow Park in Carlisle, with plenty of trails, a lake, a working farm that includes a mini-zoo with cows and goats, etc, picnic facilities, and even an ice cream shop. Dogs can run off leash so long as well behaved and supervised, and there are horse trails as well. Second, there is a small, lovely off-leash park with a pond and trails behind the firehouse in Acton. Sunday mornings are very busy with dogs, but best to go at off-hours with fewer visitors.

Correction: The name of that wonderful dog park I just recommended is not Great Meadow, but Great Brook State Farm.
