Taking Inventory: Flirty Pretty Things

Not too posh, not too cut-rate, New York–based newcomer Pinkyotto hits a shopping sweet spot.

WHAT'S SELLING BEST
The slouchy boyfriend blazer ($218) is practical—just throw it over jeans or a dress, and go!—with a Risky Business edge.

OUR FAVORITE ITEM
Wear this whimsical tunic ($168) over jeans for a rocker look, or solo for a vintage-chic vibe.

COVETED BY THE SHOP CLERK
When paired with structured separates, a lacy star-motif skirt ($138) packs a playful, feminine punch.

THE LOWDOWN Finally, an oasis in the no man's land between chichi Newbury boutiques and cheapo megachains. In its first foray outside New York City, where it has three locations, Pinkyotto carries 300-plus styles of girly dresses and on-trend separates, all from in-house designer Ryo Liu and mostly priced under $200. It stocks no more than two of each item (an effort to make every purchase special) and in only one size—which, surprisingly, fits a variety of body types, Traveling Pants–style, thanks to forgiving shapes and strategically placed sashes. That said, the magic can go only so far: For shoppers in double-digit sizes, even low ones, finding a gem requires substantial dressing-room trial and error.
