While everyone was huffing and puffing over Batfleck…

The first trailer for David Fincher’s Gone Girl was released Monday night, starring our beloved Ben Affleck himself. The film, set to hit theaters October 3, is based on Gillian Flynn’s dark and twisty NYT bestseller of the same title.

The plot follows Nick and Amy Dunne (Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike), a married couple who recently moved out of New York City to a suburban area in Missouri. When Amy mysteriously goes missing on their anniversary, the media immediately lays eyes on Nick who is assumed (and accused) to be behind her sudden disappearance.

The novel switches back and forth between Nick and Amy’s first-person perspectives, leaving clues and disturbing plot twists along the way. But don’t think that reading Gone Girl the book gives you a leg up in solving the movie mystery—Flynn penned a brand-new ending for the film.
