Two American Repertory Theater-Produced Works Nominated for Tony Awards

The A.R.T. is going all the way. All the way to the Tonys with productions like All the Way and The Glass Menagerie, that is. The Tony Awards revealed their 2014 nominee lists this year, and these two plays produced by Harvard’s American Repertory Theater in Cambridge received multiple nods—two nominations for All the Way and seven for The Glass Menagerie.

All the Way, originally produced by Oregon Shakespeare Festival and the A.R.T. (shows in Cambridge took place last fall), is now on Broadway and stars Bryan Cranston (you know him from Breaking Bad) as President Lyndon B. Johnson during the first year of his presidency. The play was written by Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Schenkkan.

The Glass Menagerie, Tennessee Williams’s classic 1944 play, was revived by the A.R.T. and showed in Cambridge last year. The play starred Cherry Jones, Zachary Quinto, Celia Keenan-Bolger, and Brian J. Smith. It was also originally produced by the A.R.T. and then showed on Broadway.

Last year, the A.R.T. walked away with multiple Tonys for Pippin, Diane Paulus’s innovative musical revival. Of 10 nominations, the production won four, including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Direction of a Musical.

The Tony Awards will air live on June 8 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
