James Taylor Awkardly Sings ‘You’ve Got a Friend’ with John Kerry in Paris

Kerry lays it on thick after failing to show up in Paris last week alongside other world leaders.

When U.S. Secretary of State and former Massachusetts Senator John Kerry failed to show up at an anti-terrorism rally in Paris last week following the Charlie Hebdo attacks, everybody was all up in arms about it. So naturally Kerry hopped on a plane to France on Thursday night, and was quick to make amends as soon as he got there.

According to EW, Kerry had a friendly embrace with France’s President, François Hollande, and also placed a wreath on the site of the supermarket where four were killed just a few days after the Charlie Hebdo shootings. And then Kerry brought out singer James Taylor, another Mass native and favorite among mother-in-laws.

Taylor sang his famous rendition of Carole King’s “You’ve Got a Friend,” and it is, admittedly, awkward. Kerry is tapping his foot like a forced robot, and poor Jane Hartley, U.S. Ambassador to France, tries to save the microphone. Overall, everyone got through it, and earned applause. A for effort.
