Watch: Dropkick Murphys Held Moment of Silence Before Final Beachcomber Show
Local music fans flooded the Beachcomber in Quincy over the weekend as the Dropkick Murphys gave the popular venue a proper send-off for its final show on Saturday night.
Before kicking off what would be the last performance at the decades old bar and club, the Boston-based band paid their respects with a very classy introduction. The Dropkicks started the evening off with a brief moment of silence, which was followed by a recorded greeting from the venue’s founder Jimmy McGettrick, who passed away a few years ago.
After the emotional introduction, the rockers put on a dynamite show for the hundreds of fans in attendance and got the night started with a cover of the AC/DC classic “TNT.”

The Dropkicks ended up playing a number of fun covers on Saturday night.
According to the Boston Globe, the band performed The Standells’ hit “Dirty Water,” to the delight of the Boston area crowd. The Dropkicks also did a rendition of Creedance Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son.”
Founded in 1959, the Beachcomber is the latest local music venue to close its doors in recent months, joining spots like T.T. the Bear’s, which bid farewell to fans over the summer. Johnny D’s in Somerville will also be saying goodbye to area music lovers in 2016.
