As a rabid fan of George Lucas’ sci-fi franchise, Mindy Kaling–like the rest of the world–can’t wait to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The Cambridge native chatted about her love of Star Wars on Thursday night’s episode of the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and admitted to the late night host that her master plan to see the new film early completely backfired.

Kaling told Fallon that she agreed to moderate a discussion with the cast for her friend J.J. Abrams because she thought the director would give her an early screening of the flick. Unfortunately for the Mindy Project star, that didn’t happen.

“I was like, ‘Oh, I’ll get to see Star Wars early,’ and he was like, ‘No, you’re not going to be able to,'” Kaling said. “I think he was worried that I’d upload it to the Internet for money–which I would do.”

Despite not getting a sneak peek at the film, Kaling said she’s having a bit of fun trolling Star Wars fans by pretending that she’s never seen any of the installments.

“What’s Star Wars? What’s Han Solo?” Kaling joked. “Just because it pisses people off.”

Fallon gave the actress a taste of her own medicine, though, and briefly conned Kaling into thinking that he got to see the new Star Wars early. She was pretty jealous until the comedian confessed to the ruse.

“I was about to e-mail J.J. Abrams, ‘This dude Fallon said he saw your movie,'” Kaling said.
