The cast for Patriots Day just keeps getting better.

CBS Films and Lionsgate announced on Thursday that Golden Globe-winning actor Kevin Bacon has joined the cast of the upcoming movie about the Boston Marathon bombing. The film is being produced by Mark Wahlberg, who will also star in the project.

Bacon will play FBI agent Richard DesLauriers, who was the Special Agent in Charge during the 2013 tragedy.

“Richard DesLauriers worked tirelessly as one of the key figures in an impossibly sophisticated investigation and Kevin Bacon possesses the intelligence and empathy to portray him,” director Peter Berg said in a statement.

Earlier this week, officials announced that Michelle Monaghan has joined the project. The actress will play a composite character named Carol Saunders, the wife of Boston Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders, another composite character played by Wahlberg.

Other notable new cast members include The Sopranos actor Vincent Curatola, who is attached to play Mayor Thomas Menino in Patriots Day. James Colby has also been cast in the role of Police Commissioner William Evans, who was the superintendent in charge of the Bureau of Field Services for the Boston Police Department at the time of the bombing.

Rounding out the cast are J.K. Simmons, who will play Watertown Police Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese, and John Goodman, who’s signed on for the role of former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis.

Patriots Day will hit theaters in Boston on December 21.
