Netflix Is Filming a New Action Movie in Boston’s Fort Point Neighborhood

Wheelman, starring Frank Grillo, will rev up its engines in the Seaport.

If you see cars racing around the Seaport next week, it’s likely for a new action movie that Netflix is filming in Boston.

According to a notice sent out to residents, the upcoming crime thriller Wheelman will shoot driving scenes in the Fort Point neighborhood overnight on Monday, September 12, between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Associate location manager Michael Judge wrote in the note that the production won’t result in street closures and will only impact traffic when the cameras are rolling. Pedestrians will also still have access to all of the buildings in the area.

While it’s unclear if Wheelman will actually take place in Boston, the film sounds like a perfect addition to the city’s cinematic history.

Netflix’s new film, starring Captain America: Civil War actor Frank Grillo, is sort of like a mix between Mark Wahlberg’s The Italian Job and Ben Affleck’s The Town. Grillo plays a getaway driver who must race for his life after a bank robbery doesn’t go as planned. The protagonist is stuck with a car full of cash and must protect his family, all while trying to track down the person who double-crossed him.

Written and directed by Jeremy Rush, Wheelman was acquired by Netflix after producers Joe Carnahan and Solution Entertainment Group’s Myles Nestel presented the films to buyers at Cannes earlier this year. Grillo is making his producing debut on the project while J. Todd Harris, Chady Mattar, and Scott Silver will also serve as executive producers.
