CBS Films and Lionsgate released the first trailer for Mark Wahlberg’s upcoming Boston Marathon bombing movie Patriots Day on Wednesday morning.

The intense teaser begins with Wahlberg—who plays Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders, a composite character—as he says goodbye to his wife, played by Michelle Monaghan, before going to work at the 2013 marathon. The trailer also briefly shows John Goodman as former police commissioner Ed Davis, J.K. Simmons as Watertown police sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese, and Kevin Bacon as FBI agent Richard DesLauriers.

According to the official description, the film is a “visceral and unflinching chronicle” that captures the “suspense of one of the most sophisticated manhunts in law enforcement history and celebrates the strength of the people of Boston.”

Earlier this year, Wahlberg told Boston magazine that director Peter Berg was doing everything in his power to make sure that Patriots Day would honor the men and women who were affected by the tragedy.

“He knows how important it is to get it right and we are committed to doing that,” Wahlberg said. “We won’t accept anything less.”

Patriots Day hits theaters in Boston, Los Angeles, and New York on December 21. The film will receive a wide release on January 13, 2017.
