If you need a hug after such a contentious election season, Jenny Slate has got you covered.

The Milton native and her father Ron will be at the Brookline Booksmith on Thursday night for a reading of their new book About the House. The former Saturday Night Live star told her Boston fans on Twitter that she’ll be giving out hugs at the event to anyone who needs one.

In addition to the hugs, the first 50 people in line will receive a free copy of About the House. The book, co-authored by the Gifted actress and her dad, is a collection of stories, poems, and essays about the Slate family’s house in Milton.

The father-daughter pair is using an interesting method of distribution for their book. Publisher Concord Free Press is actually giving About the House away to readers for free, as long as recipients promise to make a charitable donation as well as give the book to someone else once they’ve finished.

Thursday, November 10, 7 p.m., Brookline Booksmith, Brookline, brooklinebooksmith.com.
