Alfred Stieglitz and Modern America opening at the MFA

As one of the first fine arts museums to display photography, the MFA celebrates the works of New York photographer Alfred Stieglitz and will present a selection of his photos. One of the foremost artists of photography, Stieglitz focused on the geometry of New York, the play within nature, his wife, painter Georgia O’Keefe, and life in the early 20th century. With photos donated by Stieglitz and O’Keeffe, this exhibition shows some of the best examples in his career.

“Old Ironsides” Afloat Again

After two years in dry dock for maintenance and restoration, the USS Constitution returns to the water in a special event with the National Parks of Boston. The ship launched in October 1797, and through its 200 years the USS Constitution has seen action in the War of 1812 and traveled to Europe and Africa, before settling in our harbor in 1954. To mark its return to the water, the USS Constitution Museum plans a day of free family events like a scavenger hunt, sea chantey sing alongs, and a display of behind the scenes footage of the restoration process. The USS Constitution officially hits the Boston Harbor at 11:30 p.m., and there will be a live stream to follow the late-night events.

Free, Sunday, July 23, 9 a.m., USS Constitution Museum, Charlestown Navy Yard, Building 22, Charlestown, ussconstitutionmuseum.org.
