Pixies fans, it’s time to don your flannels. Frank Black and company are back with their first big run of new material in two decades—the single “Bagboy” and a short, sharp four-song EP, creatively named EP1. This time around, though, they’re touring minus legendary bassist and co-vocalist Kim Deal, who officially ditched the band last year. Their search for Deal’s replacement hasn’t quite worked out as planned: Kim Shattuck, recruited from L.A. pop-punk trio the Muffs, was fired in late November after a European tour. As of press time, there was no word of who will be rounding out the rhythm section, but otherwise, the band is intact and bringing their trademark mix of raging noise and skewed dream pop to the Orpheum on 1/18.
