Where to Shop on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday

Ladies and gents, Turkey Day is officially tomorrow. After you and a million others have frantically stampeded the supermarket for last-minute side dish ingredients, prepped the table with cutesy place card holders, and readied yourself for a major food coma, you’ll start thinking about what’s next, Black Friday: the national holiday that exists solely so we can prepare ourselves for the next national holiday. And while you’ve likely been barraged with large department store deals and savings, don’t forget Boston’s small businesses. This year, we have compiled a list of small stores around town and what they are doing—both on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday—to accommodate sale-seeking consumers.
On Saturday, November 24, Jamaica Plain will take part in its first-ever Cash Mob. As an alternative to American Express’ Small Business Saturday (during which shoppers at participating small businesses receive rebates on their AMEX cards), the Cash Mob demands that shoppers use cash only, and 2-3% of each sale will therefore stay within the community instead of going straight to a credit card processor.
Known for its quality eco-friendly kids clothing, Hatched is one of the hundreds of small businesses in the neighborhood that is participating in the Cash Mob. The store is also offering a 20-40%-off special on select European toys from companies that will soon cut exportation to the US. The selection will change each Friday until Christmas.

Winner of Best Toys in this year’s Best of Boston, Stellabella Toys offers a variety of cool things to stick under the tree—pogo sticks, block-building sets, giraffes in a box, plate-making kits, and more. On Black Friday, take advantage of its 20% sale (excluding already discounted merchandise, Lego, and Playmobil).

Always up to date with the latest trends, Moxie offers high-end women’s fashion: shoes (Best Women’s Shoes of 2012) and other irresistible accessories in the Beacon Hill location, as well as top designer clothing only available in the Wellesley location. From Friday to Sunday after Thanksgiving, the store will be holding a “Thanks & Giving” sale which includes 25% off shoes, boots, and clothing, as well as a free piece of jewelry with every purchase more than $75.

On Black Friday, the boutique will be offering 30% off your entire purchase from 10 a.m. to noon, as well as 20% off the entire purchase from noon to 7 p.m.

As clumps of crowds make their way to the shopping malls and streets of Boston this weekend, Flock seems to have quite a fitting name. The shop (a Best of Boston 2012 winner for Women’s Accessories) sells top-of-the-line clothing (Dolce Vita, Free People, Stewart + Brown), accessories (Elise M. belts, Linea Pelle handbags, MeMoi legwear), and jewelry (Heidi Roland, Tracey Tanner, Digby & Iona) that will have women itching to buy the place out. On both Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, Flock will offer 30% off the entire store.
