Ben Affleck’s Argo may be nominated for Best Picture, but Ted could also win an Oscar on Sunday.

If Boston wants to walk away from Academy Awards on Sunday with an Oscar in hand, it’s up to Ben Affleck’s Argo or the Boston-based comedy Ted.

Our Money’s on Ben. Argo Has Seven Chances to Win an Oscar This Weekend.

The Oscars may have snubbed Ben Affleck for this Sunday’s 85th Annual Academy Awards, but his film Argo is still nominated for seven awards, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Alan Arkin), Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay), and Best Film Editing. Ben has been gracious about not being nominated for Best Actor or Director, but we’re sure he’d like nothing more than to take the grand prize of Best Picture on Sunday and be able to say, “Hey Academy, how do you like them apples?” And if not, well, let’s play close attention to our TVs for the money shot of Ben muttering, “Argo f*** yourself.”

Argo’s odds of winning an Oscar this weekend sound pretty good though, literally. It’s also nominated for Best Music (Original Score), Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing. But we’re still rooting for Best Picture. Affleck’s last Oscar win was for Good Will Hunting 15 years ago, when he won for Best Screenplay with Cambridge buddy Matt Damon.

If Ben Won’t Represent Boston, Mark Wahlberg and Ted Sure Will.

Not only is Seth MacFarlane of Ted hosting this year’s Academy Awards, but Mark Wahlberg and the character Ted are set to present at the Oscars as well. Ted is now the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time, so with all three of these personalities to get air time on Sunday, we hope ABC has its bleepers ready.

Wahlberg revealed on Anderson Cooper’s talk show earlier this year that MacFarlane is working on a sequel to Ted, but the first movie is already nominated for an Oscar. Yes, that’s right. Ted is nominated for an Academy Award. The Best Original Song nominee, titled “Everybody Needs a Best Friend” will be performed by Norah Jones live at the awards.

Of course, both Argo and Ted have some fierce competition this weekend.

Argo’s competition for Best Picture includes Lincoln, Zero Dark ThirtySilver Linings Playbook, and Les Miserables. Even Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick predicts that Lincoln will steal the show. Meanwhile, Ted has to take down Adele’s “Skyfall” to win Best Original Song. And as the world has learned, Adele wins everything. (Insert offensive Ted joke about Adele here.)

The last time I checked Ben Affleck was born in California. Why does the city of Boston want to adopt this guy so badly?
