Boston Calling Coming Back to City Hall in September
During the Memorial Day weekend concert, event organizers announced the second installment will be happening in just a few months.
As the inaugural Boston Calling concert on City Hall Plaza came to a close on Sunday, winding down a successful two days worth of crowd-surfing and rocking out, a second set featuring even more musical acts was announced for September.
On September 7 and September 8, music fans will again have a chance to swarm the steps of Government Center and watch dozens of bands take the two stages outside Mayor Tom Menino’s headquarters for another round of the music festival. The announcement about the upcoming show was made after headliners The National took the stage at the concert’s weekend debut.
This weekend’s concert brought thousands of spectators to the Downtown Boston area to watch acts like Marina and the Diamonds, Fun., and local favorites Bad Rabbits, despite the unseasonably cold and rainy weather that seemed to linger in the city for most of Saturday, and into Sunday afternoon’s show.
In September, names like rapper Kendrick Lamar, rock group Vampire Weekend, Major Lazer, and more will appear for the second installment of the two-day, two-stage festival. At the close of Sunday’s event, organizers announced that “Early Bird Weekend Passes” for both general admission and VIP spots to the Labor Day weekend gathering will go on sale Friday May 31, at 10 a.m.
The concept of Boston Calling is the brainchild of two Phoenix Media Group alums, and was first conceived for WFNX, but when the station went off the air last year, the duo instead started a company, called Crash Line Productions, and secured financing to run the festival on their own.
