NBC Is Filming a TV Pilot in Downtown Boston
It's for a political thriller called Odyssey.
Boston will serve as the backdrop for yet another Hollywood project.
NBC officials are planning on setting the stage in Downtown Boston in early March, to start filming part of a new pilot for a series called Odyssey, according to an email that went out to the community.
While it didn’t offer much detail, the email said:
Filming will occur at Post Office Square Park on Saturday [through] Sunday, March 1 and 2; production vehicles will be parked on Devonshire, Otis, and Summer streets starting Thursday, March 6 through Monday, March 10; and filming at 100 Summer St., on Saturday [through] Sunday, March 8 and 9.
There was no indication about what the scenes would be, but based on the description of the show, which bills itself as a politically-charged series with a Traffic-like edge, there could be some protests involved.
Post Office Square, the first spot they will be filming parts for Odyssey, is located in the Financial District area. Devonshire, Otis, and Summer streets are just a few blocks away.
Artist Peter Paul Payack reports that residents in Cambridge also got notification, in the form of notes on their doors, indicating that some filming would be happening across the river as well.
NBC picked up the pilot for Odyssey back in September 2013, according to Deadline Hollywood. The online outlet, which tracks up and coming film projects, said the show will be “a global conspiracy thriller drama” that follows several character plots, after the central characters’ lives are intertwined by one major event.
They go on to report:
…[It’s] centered on three families whose lives are torn apart when a stranded female soldier, a disillusioned corporate attorney, and a disrespected political activist are pulled into the same shocking international military conspiracy.
In early February, as the ball got rolling on the new project, Hollywood Reporter noted that some recognizable names signed on to take leading roles in the pilot. According to their report, “Nurse Jackie and Twilight alum Peter Facinelli has been tapped to star in the drama.”
“A man with an inquisitive streak, happy with his wife and two kids, he’s assigned to investigate a company before a potential merger and finds what appears to be a trail of blood stretching from Reno to Africa,” they wrote.
Facinelli will be joined by Pushing Daisies star Anna Friel, and The Carrie Diaries’ Jake Robinson, the report said. The Following’s Adam Armus and Kay Foster will pen the script and executive produce.
Boston reached out to the big shots—and location manager—in charge of the March shoot, but did not immediately receive a reply. More to come.
