Five Reasons to Leave the House This Weekend
Events happening in Boston this weekend include MayFair, the Flying Powder Fun Run, Cinco de Mustache, and more.
Mount Ida College Exposed
Be among the first to see the fashion industry’s next big stars. The Mount Ida College fashion show is an annual event that showcases the hard work, talent, and creativity of the Mount Ida Fashion Design students. This year’s theme is “Exposed,” so join the fun as young designers “expose” their latest collections.
$15-28, Saturday, May 3, 5:30 p.m., Royale Nightclub, 279 Tremont St., Boston, mountida.edu.
Cinco de Mustache
What better way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo than at Cinco de Mustache? Come to the Hard Rock Cafe for live music, margaritas, and mustaches, and to raise money for the MSPCA. Local bands like Monkey Knife Fight and the Stone Frets will perform, and you can BYOM (bring your own mustache) for a chance to win prizes from J.P. Licks, Taza Chocolate, and Boston Burger Company.
$10-12, Saturday, May 3, 8 p.m., Hard Rock Cafe, 22 Clinton St., Boston, 617-424-7625, mustacheboston.com.
Flying Powder Fun Run
If the Boston Marathon got you motivated, then why not give this Holi-inspired fun run a try? No experience is necessary for this untimed 5K race, and you’ll have a blast as you’re blasted with colors at each kilometer. The race will be fun, good for your health, and you’ll go home looking like a walking Jackson Pollack painting.
$35, Saturday, May 3, 9 a.m., Kimball Farm Feed, 791 E. Broadway, Haverhill, 978-521-3990, flyingpowderfunrun.com.
The beginning of May means one thing: it’s time for MayFair. About 100,000 people will squeeze into Harvard Square for the 31st annual event, which will include live music and performers, sidewalk sales, crafts and antique vendors, and food from all around the world.
Free, Sunday, May 4, 12-6 p.m., Harvard Square, 18 Brattle St., Cambridge, 617-491-3434, harvardsquare.com.
May the 4th Be with You
Celebrate all things Star Wars and learn about animal adaptations in our own galaxy at the Franklin Park Zoo this Sunday. As Star Wars characters roam around the zoo, attendees are invited to wear their own intergalactic attire and take pictures with their favorite characters. Plus, the first 200 visitors will get complimentary cake and cupcakes from Oakleaf Cakes.
$18, Sunday, May 4, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Franklin Park Zoo, 1 Franklin Park Road, Boston, 617-541-5466, zoonewengland.org.
