Here’s Your Chance to Join the GospelFest Community Choir
The Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture is hosting open auditions.
As Fred Hammond, the headliner for last year’s GospelFest, once said, “Sounds like somebody’s ready to have some church up in here!”
And Boston is. Prior to the 14th annual GospelFest at City Hall Plaza, the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture is holding open auditions for the first time for people interested in joining the GospelFest Community Choir.¬†According to a press release, members of the choir will give¬†anyone with the interest a chance to “learn the history of gospel music, as well as share the stage with acclaimed artists.”
Candidates must be at least 18 and be prepared to perform 30 seconds of the gospel song of their choice at the open auditions, which take place Monday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m.
This year’s GospelFest will be led by Caitlin Banks, a Berklee grad who is also the musical director for the multimedia organization The Loft Sessions and the director of the classical chamber choir Crepusculum.
J.J. Hairston and Youthful Praise‚ÄĒwatch them perform “Grateful” in the uplifting video above‚ÄĒwill headline GospelFest 2014, an annual event that attracts thousands to City Hall Plaza for an afternoon of gospel performances both traditional and contemporary.
GospelFest is free and open to the public. August 10, 4-8 p.m., City Hall Plaza, Boston, 617-635-4461, cityofboston.gov.
