My Very Big Little World

January 2006
Text Size: A | A | A

Ideally, the characters in illustrated children's books must command our admiration. Max the Wild Thing is fearless. Curious George has a good heart. Olivia the pig is a glorious diva. SugarLoaf, the lead in this simply drawn story, is a loaf of some sort, but what she lacks in definition she makes up in kindness. Through her own words, we learn that she's whimsical and enjoys strong female role models. She's a good loaf, and while the story is thinly sliced, it's sweet enough.
