White Guys
White Guys by Anthony Giardina (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 384 pages, $25)
Giardina brings us a retelling of Boston’s notorious Charles Stuart murder using a web of fictionalized, made-for-Hollywood characters. The portrayal of the pushes and pulls on the main character, Tim—urban/suburban, fidelity/adultery—is strong, but the muscular part of the tale is its portrayal of Tim’s close friend Billy Mogavero (a.k.a. Stuart), a constant source of enigmatic romantic power and dark potential.
