Ganging Up on the Sun

By Andrew Rimas

Guster has always been honey pop dressed up in a college sweatshirt. The Boston quartet made a name in late ’90s as one of the most successful indie bands on the scene, and now it returns with its fifth album, custom-built for heavy radio rotation. On tracks like “Satellite” and “C’mon,” Guster spins a sugary jangle that Fleetwood Mac would envy. Even so, old fans will swoon at the newfound muscularity underlying some of the songwriting.
