Raytheon said that the cost of doing business in Massachusetts was so high that if it couldn’t get a discount on its utilities it might just have to pick up its 20,000-odd jobs and head for the Sun Belt. The company neglected to mention that profits climbed a record 11 percent in the fourth quarter of 1994. Who says defense contractors will have trouble competing in the nineties?
