Mitt Romney is Having a Worse Week Than You Are

mitt_hands_up.jpgYes, he can go cry in his giant piles of money, but it’s not easy being Mitt Romney. The head of Romney’s Idaho campaign, Larry Craig, pleaded guilty to charges he solicited sex in an Minnesota bathroom. Today, the Herald reports that Romney and his staffers love imported cars, even after Romney encouraged support for the American-made brands. D’oh.

Correction of the Year

I know it’s bad mojo to point these things out, but still, this correction that ran in today’s Globe is spectacular.

Correction: Because of a reporting error, a story about wrestler Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake in yesterday’s Living/Arts section misidentified the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority.

Here’s the offending paragraph:

The Last Word

Your long day of corporate drudgery is over. Get out and enjoy the city! Here are a few ideas to get you started, lovingly picked by Boston Daily.

SantiagoDiaz.jpgThe end of summer always gets us down a little. Outdoor concert series start wrapping up, and we’re stuck inside for our musical fixes once again. Tonight, the Gore Place in Waltham ends its Concerts in the Carriage House series with Santiago Diaz, a classical guitarist who plays music by Spanish and South American composers.

Meet the New Boss

Thrust into the hottest seat in the Bay State, new Tribal Council Chairman Shawn Hendricks faced the media earlier today at the tribal offices of the Mashpee Wampanoag in his first press conference–and began the tough task of becoming the new public face of not only a controversial casino bid, but also an embattled people. Since being elevated to the post earlier this week in the wake of the scandalous dismissal of Glenn Marshall, Hendricks has been meeting with elders and tribal officials to plot a path forward on the Mashpee’s plan to build a billion dollar gaming resort.

Aging’s Tough

If you thought you forgot something earlier this month, it wasn’t just your keys. Dorchester’s own Donnie Wahlberg celebrated his 38th birthday on August 17th. Since a belated birthday card is always cheesy, you can wish the former boy band member a happy birthday in person tonight at Estate.

Spanning the Web

Taking you around the internet for your afternoon enjoyment.

You huffers get offa my lawn: After Governor Deval Patrick found himself “deeply disturbed” by a stray bullet that broke a window at the State House, Boston Police launched a crackdown on nighttime loitering and daytime drug use in the Boston Common. Now we don’t want to stay in the park, either, not without the possibility of watching tourists from the midwest shield their children from the crazies. [Herald]

Sisters Are Doing it For Themselves

not_brady.jpgWe know we’ve developed a kind of obsession with the birth of John Edward Thomas Moynahan to rival the Globe’s play of the ADL on the front page, but the broadsheet’s Names column has a quote from an advice columnist that is driving us nuts, so we had to bring it up again. We apologize in advance.

Honest Advice for College Students

teacher.jpgYesterday, we began our series on advice for the college students who will soon inundate Boston like water in the Tip O’Neill Tunnel when the pumps are down. This morning, we’ll review proper etiquette for public transit. Put this on your Facebook, kids—they don’t tell you this stuff at MIT orientation.

Sen. Craig and Mitt, Sitting In a Tree?

BD_howie.jpgHowie Carr celebrates his good fortune today by phoning in another Herald column. This time his target is Idaho Senator Larry Craig, a strong believer in strong families and strong values and so forth, who was bagged in a sting operation trying to solicit sex from an undercover cop in an airport. Naturally, this man is a fraud and a hypocrite and deserves all the abuse we can summon. Howie could have done a merciless column on how, recent history has shown, the more outspoken you are against so-called sexual perversions, the more likely you are to be indulging in them yourself. But no.
