There Will Be No Shaking Of Your Money Maker at the Big E
We love fairs. Where else can you pet farm animals, watch Canadian mounties, and taste the latest in foods that sound like a dare (fried pickles?)? The cognitive dissonance caused by the fact that Ludacris, the southern rapper loathed by both Bill O’Reilly and Oprah Winfrey, was scheduled to play the Big E is overwhelming us. And now we’re totally bummed that he won’t be appearing.
Officials with the Big E in West Springfield cite poor ticket sales for the decision to scratch the appearance that was scheduled for September 30. . . .
Local officials had said the rapper had to keep his act family friendly.
Thrown in with an, uh, eclectic, spate of performers that includes American Idol contestants Taylor Hicks (a combination of blues, soul, and R&B, according to his website) and Chris Daughtry (the “rocker” that lost out to Hicks two seasons ago), Joan Jett and reality TV star Brooke Hogan, Ludacris was the sole rapper on the bill. Clearly, the fair-going public was also confused as to what place rap has at a fair in West Springfield, Massachusetts and decided to buy tickets to Trace Adkins instead.
The news of Ludacris’ non-appearance makes us sad for what could have been. There would have been 701 people in that undersold arena to see what would happen when a man started rapping about hoes in different area codes in front of a bunch of New England cow farmers. Now we’ll just have to dream of what could have been, and cry into our fried Snickers.

Wow, great that Big E fans will be exposed to Taylor Hicks southern soul. Not only can he sing but his performance makes you want to get up and dance. Just ask all the Earth Wind and Fire fans that saw Taylor last weekend at Jones Beach. They loved him. Bank Clerk next year? I think not! But he may have to hire one to keep his accounts straight from all his concert sales earnings.

Have been to many concerts throughout my life and nobody delivers like Taylor Hicks. He is an amazing performer, awesome vocals and his addicting concerts leave you wanting more. His distinguished voice leaves nobody to “WONDER” who is singing. With all the copycats and similar genres,Taylor Hicks has new and refreshing material. Truly a legend in the making. If you haven’t seen him you’re really missing out bigtime!!!!

I’m glad to see Daughtry coming to the Big E - the biggest selling artist so far of 2007. With over 3 million CDs sold and 5 singles on the charts (3 pop/hot ac - 2 #1’s and another on it’s way - and 2 rock), it’s easy to see why this concert is sold out. I’ve seen Daughtry in concert and was not disappointed! I haven’t seen Taylor Hicks in concert (not my cup of tea), but I hear his live shows are good and I wish him nothing but success.

The Big E must have been desparate, if they’ve got Taylor Hicks performing. The last time he was in town, the venue couldn’t even give tickets away, so even this free concert is going to be empty, unless people think it’s a comedy act, and are there for the laughs. This guy should be cleaning the stage, not performing on it. Somehow I think that’s what he will be doing in a year.

This may or may not be the time or place to say this, but I have to!!! When AI was on I can actually say that I enjoyed Chris’s performance, even though I was a true Taylor fan. I never had any bad feelings towards Chris and was disappointed to see him go. But ever since I have gotten to see and experience what his fans do, I am disgusted!!! I know it’s not Chris’s fault in any way, but YOU have totally made me hate him. I can not understand how grown adults can behave like children. I shouldn’t even say children, because I know children can’t even be so disgusting and hateful. Why take so much time and effort to purposely hurt someone and their fans? It makes absolutely no sense to me. You have all done a great job of representing what a fan shouldn’t do. You have done more to hurt your reputation than hurt Taylor’s career. I can say I am proud to be a member of the Soul Patrol, they are the best fan base there is. If you don’t like Taylor, then why be here? You know, I dislike Chris Daughtry and his music (because he nor his music are not my cup of tea) as much as the Chris fans dislike Taylor Hicks and his music, but I certainly don’t put Daughtry on my Google alerts because nothing he does is of interest to me and I consider spending time on Daughtry sites or Daughtry articles a complete waste of my time and energy. I prefer to use my valuable time on any and all Taylor Hicks sites and articles I can get my hands on. So it is beyond my comprehension why Chris Daughtry fans would want to spend their time on Taylor Hicks’ sites and reading articles about Taylor, other than that they are secret Taylor Hicks fans. I’ve known it all along!

I do not now and never have liked Daughtry’s music, however, I would not go to a site and bash him for hatefulness. That is just wrong. It is the most childish behavior I have ever seen. If you don’t like someone why even post. This just shows everyone what idiots you are. I don’t think any of the other fans can stand any of you because all you ever do is brag brag brag and there is nothing that turns people off more than a bragger.
I have been to several of Taylor’s concerts and he is fantastic. He puts on a show that you do not want to end, and you start looking for the date of the next one close by. I am sure everyone will enjoy this concert.

I’ve been to 6 Taylor solo concerts and each have been unique and fantastic. Nobody can match his intensity, charisma and stage presence. He does not fail to entertain and the Big E is in for a real treat!

Theresa R., or should I say Scorp59, You must be joking if you think that Daughtry should be opening for a loser like Taylor Hicks. Most people don’t even remember who he is, nor do they care. He’s a bad memory that they’d rather just forget. The guy said he was going to do it the slow and steady way, but all he did was prove to the world what a failure he really is, and he did it in record time. You should be proud of him for that.
Chris doesn’t have to rely on Clive for success, his incredible talent is what got him where he is today, and is the reason that he’s going to continue to be successful, for many years to come.

This will be the first time seeing Daughtry live, but have seen Taylor before and he puts on a great, energetic and totally dance-inducing performance. There was a Nickelback concert last week, reviewer asked the following to CD
Q. “How do you feel opening for Nickelback as the Headliner?”
A. “It’s okay because they’ve sold 5million CDs and I’ve only sold 3million.
To me this is was not a very intelligent response!

I know, it’s because he can attract a crowd of 3,500 people at a venue in his own homestate that has a capacity of 10,000. In case you didn’t know, Daughtry is attracting crowds of 17,000+. Just face the FACTS. Everything that is happening to Chris is what you thought would happen to Taylor, in your delusional minds, and you’re the one that’s jealous, and has to constantly find a way to put him down, but it’s not working, because nothing can stop Daughtry from being the success that they already have become, and it’s only the beginning.

Stop quote the first quarter concert revenues. Chris has sold out every concert and his minimum pay is 100,000+ per venue. Thus the 40 bucks a ticket for Daughtry. Taylor is FREE! He wouldn’t sell out a venue on his own this large and I doubt many will go even though it is FREE!
Win or loose Daughtry is the BREAK-Out Star of Season 5.
I am a Kat fan and if you Taylor fans would admit that Daughtry is the winner now, the fighting would stop.
Taylor and Chris are not even in the same league any more.

I started out a HUGE fan of Taylor’s but I actually feel sorry for him now. He has to be so embarrassed. First off his career as a big performer is coming to an end. His tour is all but over and he’s now talking about an acoustic tour. Doesn’t that mean no band? Instead of a free concert like the Daughtry fans got, we’re stuck with yet another moneymaking scam to get the same thing. Everything I hear from him costs more money. Shoot even his fan site is membership only.
And second, the fan base he was so sure would ensure his success spends more time on the internet bashing CD and his fans than they do promoting him. What in the world are you all thinking? And why do some assume ANY negative comment anywhere on the internet is a McPhee or Daughtry fan? As much as I love Taylor, I’m fully aware many probably don’t get this music.
Although I feel this being a free concert is yet another sign of worse times to come, I for one am grateful for it and can’t wait to attend. How many of you so-called fans of Taylor’s will even be there? Or will you be some message board or newspaper comment site fighting with other fans.

Maxine, I’m sure you know this already, but the reason for the differences in the concert gross is because Taylor Hicks was booked into much larger venues for the initial part of the tour, but Daughtry chose smaller venues so that his fans would have a chance to see the band in a much more intimate setting, before the large venues and stadium part of the tour started. That is the ONLY reason that Taylor had a higher gross from the first part of the tour, and don’t expect for it to look the same for the second half of the year, because they is no way that it will. Daughtry are attracting crowds of 17,000+ and the majority of Taylor’s concerts are less than 50% full, amd don’t forget that Taylor’s next tour is going to be of the local karaoke bars in Alabama, so I know that he’ll never see 1.9 million in concert sales again.

They have sold out all there venues in record time. Stadiumns and huge concert halls. Tayor has paired back and isn’t doing so well. Thus Taylor’s Concert is FREE people and Daughtry’s concert was 40.00 bucks. WAKE UP all ready. AI 5 has been over a long long time.
I came to read about Ludacris and am sad he was cancelled. Wake up SP your a joke and your Idol is a bigger joke. Buy a Daughtry ticket and see a real concert. I am not a huge Daughtry fan but I saw them at the Kiss Concert and they won me over. Give it up about Taylor Hicks no one cares. OH and if you saw the pictures of the VMA’s you would know Chris’s wife looks beautiful. Thankfully he is not shallow and loves her regardless if she put on a few pounds or not. Great Guy and from the pictures I have seen of the SP she is 1/2 your size so you have no room to comment.

I’ve seen Taylor Hicks 3 times, Chris Daughtry 1 time and Trace Adkins once. If you want to hear great music sung by great artists that are amazing LIVE, go see Taylor Hicks and Trace Adkins!!! Both are so original and amazingly talented! Taylor will have everyone in the crowd up dancing and having a great time! I’ve not been this impressed with anyone in many years. I like all types of music including Rock and Rap, but Daughtry is a copycat and sounds so much like anyone else, add to that the fact that he screams in a megaphone or just screams. Does NOT have the vocal ability that the other 2 have by a long shot!

I heard that Taylor Hicks was invited because the Depends company was one of the sponsers this year, and he’s their new spokeperson. My inside sources say that they’re going to have a “Depends” stand set up to the left of the stage, for those who suddenly feel the onset of diahrrea and are unable to reach the toilet in time. Milk of magnesia cocktails and pepto-bismol smoothies will also be available during the show.

Since the first time I saw Taylor Hicks, I’ve been on the internet on the “soul patrol” websites. I saw adoration of a talented performer turn to jealous rage by some of his fans. The joy of his win has been forever destroyed for me and others because of a few, well represented here, so-called fans who blame everyone and everything in the world for Taylor’s demise.
They attack every reviewer who voices anything negative about Taylor with absolutely horrible comments, even to go so far as to threaten some.
That would be bad enough, but they also continually attack Chris Daughtry, his fans, and, worse of all, the man’s family in their rage. All because he has been more successful than Taylor.
For any casual readers in our area who are reading this crud, PLEASE, do not hold this behavior against Taylor Hicks. He is a lovely young man who just wants people to hear his music and enjoy it. I can almost guarantee none of these “fanatics” will be at Taylor’s show. Most live in the south from what I’ve seen on other boards. IF any of them do attend, they will stand out like a sore thumb by their behavior & outfits and my advise would be to ignore them and sit on the opposite side of the stage.

It’s a shame that they aren’t going forward with the Ludacris show. The powers that be at the fair made so many stipulations, that people who would have been interested probably backed away. Requirements such as no profanity, no beer sales, hand held metal detectors for audience members, etc.
The remaining performers have different styles. Daughtry does not need any of the restrictions that were placed on Ludacris. They are perfect for the venue. Taylor Hicks will have to fly straight for this venue, as there will be young children in attendance.

If you are planning on going to the fair and are able, please at least give Taylor Hicks’ show a chance. Taylor puts on a great show and is very personable and funny. I realize that there are people that dislike his type of music so much, but the attacks look more personal than anything.
People love different types of music and Taylor’s style may not be what you like, but that does not take away from his talent and his fun shows.

Well this sure is an interesting comment thread. I am a Taylor fan to put that out there immediatly, and these posts have been quite intriguing to me. One person way up at the top said they hated the avalon show which I went to and thought it was the best of the two Taylor Hicks concerts that I have attended. Must not be her cup of tea, and I ask chris fans to at least see one of Taylor’s concerts with an open mind before you start bashing him, then if you still don’t like him you can voice you opinion in a respectful manner. Too bad I can’t go to the Taylor concert due to scheduling conflicts. Hopefully someone can post how it went. Soul Patrol!

Record sales and sold out concerts are NOT what Taylor is all about. Chris gets more air time, etc. because all the “kids” that like rock, like Chris. Fine. Taylor has a diffferent fan base - people who love the soul and R+B that Taylor does so well. Someone I met in Birmingham said that God had blessed Taylor by giving him the opportunity to do what he loves - play his music for people who “get it” and “get him”. He’s not interested in selling out huge concert venues. He wants to share his music with his fans in small intimate clubs and concert halls. He also talked about how Taylor is still an Alabama boy and does anything he can to help they city. Do you Chris fans know about Taylor as a person? How great is he for all he does to help KidOne? I’m glad Chris’ fans love him and I’m happy that he’s doing well but Taylor gave me back the music I’ve been missing and I love him for it. Oh yeah - I love the sweaty grey shirt, tight jeans and sexy eyes too. I might as well confess! I gotta stop! I could talk about him all day - seriously!
