Don’t Ever Change, Cambridge

1195060030In these uncertain times, it’s nice to know we can rely on some things. The sun will always rise and set. Gravity will always hold us down. And Cambridge will always be liberal to a fault.

During last week’s elections, a troop of Boy Scouts set up donation boxes at polling places to raise money for the troops in Iraq. In typical Cambridge fashion, the city removed the boxes and the Boy Scouts because they may have had a “pro-war” bent.

Marsha Weinerman, executive director of the city’s Election Commission, said the boxes were removed after a resident complained to commission workers about their implied “pro-war” message.

“We contacted the law department, and it was determined that the best course of action would be to remove the boxes,” Weinerman said.

Way to stand up to those preteen hawks, Cambridge.

The Secretary of State told the Cambridge Chronicle that most of the Scouts’ booths were legal.

Weinerman cited a law that prohibits political messages near any polling station in an election. But state law prohibits political messages pertaining to a particular election within 150 feet of any polling station, according to a spokesperson for Secretary of State William Galvin’s office. There is no law stopping someone from promoting an unrelated political message within 150 feet of any polling place.

This is how the idea that those who are against the war are also somehow against the troops gets started. Good for you, Cambridge. You’ve managed to teach a group of kids that ideology trumps empathy every time.

  1. Bob Says:

Wait until someone says that listing certain candidates on the ballot sends “the wrong message”. I wonder how many of these scouts have a parent or older sibling in the military. The funny think is that Cambridge still manages to produce brave men and women who will serve their country, because that is there belief.

  2. Catherine Marenghi Says:

Cambridge is opposed to political messages? You’re kidding me, right? I think Cambridge is opposed to messages it doesn’t agree with. That’s not liberal — it’s bigotry. And what lesson are these kids to take away? That it’s wrong to support soldiers on active duty? I’m 100% against the war, but I know these soldiers are working on behalf of all of us, regardless of our political leanings or beliefs.

  3. Grant Says:

Its amazing the intolerance of ideas from a town with some of the top educational institutions in the world. I don’t think some of these groups are that far intellectually from those that kept Galileo locked in his house for the remainder of his life..

  4. Jeff Lundholm Says:

It seems like our complaints concerning Marsha Weinerman’s pro-liberal message as evidenced by her actions should be adequate cause to remove her from her job….

  5. George Hedrick Says:

The conduct of Marsha Weinermen and the city of Cambridge is so despicable as to be beyond words. They should be so ashamed of themselves that they wouldn’t show their faces in public. George Hedrick

  6. Scott Bushnell Says:

I believe that if they had been MoveOn.org, ANSWER or CODE Pink soliciting support for their efforts the story would have much different. Boy Scouts are not a political entity. They are a “teach young boys to be adults” entity. What do you think this teaches them. I’ll tell you - its bigotry.

  7. Joan Miller Says:

What right does this woman have to stop these well intentioned boy scouts from sending packages to the troops ? She is not God like it seems that all these women who are getting into power believe they are. And I am a woman! I want to see women get in power but these kind of women are scary !!

  8. Dennis Morrison Says:

Every day we are moving farther and farther away from a cohesive society that is united as a country and people and moving toward a country that is trying to please every person
every religion and every mood. It is insanity at best as it will demoralize every person that tries to do any good because someone will find something wrong with it and have the good idea squashed. I am ashamed where we have come as a nation.

  9. Charles Thibodeaux Says:

There you go, another DEMOCRACK trying to conttrol some ones life and cant control her own.

  10. K Crockett Says:

I wonder why so many of us KNOW liberals HATE! This is proof, they hate the troops, the military in general. All they love are their ill thought “feelings” Bet these collected items would have been in Holiday boxes to the troops. Hope the Bad Ghosts Of Christmas visit this woman and the person who complained, if that person really does exist.

  11. David Says:

More liberal bias! You ever notice the liberals who are supposed to help the little people will only help them if they support the liberal mob mentality.

  12. Shayne Says:

This kind of treason is coming from the state that started the WAR for American independence back in 1775. How times have changed.

Have you noticed that no one enforces the treason clause of the Constitution anymore?

  13. Joe Schneider Says:

When is collecting gifts for our military a political action? NEVER!
When is squashing efforts of a Boy Scout Troop to collect gifts political? Just read the story and weep.

  14. Chad Thatcher Says:

I’m from San Antonio,TX “Military City USA” and if that would’ve happened here, that liberal idiot would’nt have a job in city government any longer. As a former U.S. Marine, I say that if she can’t stand behind the troops, please stand in front, so they can shoot your sorry a** !!!!

  15. Leonardo Cavallaro Says:

The placement of boxes for donations to our troops at polling station did not carry a political message (some of those who donated were anti-war, some pro-war, all were patriotic!). The decision to order the removal of the boxes did carry a strong political message! In her blind anti-pariotism rage Frau Weinerman violated the state law prohibiting political messages at polling station. Would she have been allowed to do the same thing during the World Wars we fought against the Germans?

  16. Tom Seigo Says:

Why, in a country whose citizens fought and won our very freedom from tyranny are there those who cannot fathom the threat that we now face in this world? Like those who oppose war, I too would like to have an utopian environment, free of the threat of terrorism, fanaticism, world hunger, et al calamities. However, we do live in a volatile global community and we MUST take up arms when necessary to preserve our GOD given rights as free peoples who have for over 200 years enjoyed just about every freedom mankind in other parts of the world still only dreams of. IT is folks like the city officials in Cambridge that are too blind to see the real threat that not only we here at home face, but others around the free world face as well. If Europe goes down to fanatical entities, how far away is the USofA from that fate? Wake up America!

  17. Shirley-Ann Grubbe Says:

I believe an apology is needed. I left a message and stated that the Boy Scouts should be invited to Ms. Weinerman’s office and they should formally apologize to these Boy Scouts and explain how sometimes adults make big mistakes. They should throw a big party and give awards to each one of the Boy Scouts in addition making sure that Ms. Weinerman calls in the Press to see the apology. In addition, she should be required to send some additional care packages to our amazing, wonderful military! When I am in a store and I see one of our finest from the military I not only solute the person but offer to buy them lunch or a drink depending upon where I am. We are NOT doing enough for the devotion and hard work they provide to this country. Ms. Weinerman I would think that when you sit by yourself that you would feel very shameful to have stopped those wonderful Boy Scouts. Our society needs more youngsters and adults to participate in supporting and yes loving our wonderful military because without them you and I might be living in a society where there is no freedom. You should rectify this, we all make mistakes and this one is not only a major one, but a very sad one. I hope you take some action to reward those wonderful Boy Scouts and their wonderful families.

  18. Robohobo Says:

This is coming from an area of the country that is supposedly the cradle of the US? The liberals have taken over academia and they ARE NOT friends of the US. Nothing more be said.

  19. George Salmas Says:

Cambridge is the home of Harvard University — the college attended by President John F. Kennedy whose heroism as a Navy Lieutenant is well known. Lt. Kennedy’s brother Joe, a Navy pilot who was killed in the war, also attended Harvard. That Ms. Weinerman, a Cambridge official, would prevent the citizens of Cambridge from honoring young people serving their country as the Kennedy brothers did is morally reprehsible. She must resign.

  20. Richard Wolf, Veteran US Army Says:

    Ms. Weinerman,

How utterly ashamed you should be. I am sure that you will justify your position on the legal counsel you received but your action goes beyond that. Granted you a public official sworn to uphold the law and doctrine of the United States but then so are the men and women that make up our troops.

Many of them may not believe in the war but they have to believe that what they are doing is the will of their country. Yes, their country our country and our Congress who approved this action, how quickly we forget.

Any action or actions that undermine the war efforts here denigrate our troops moral and the will it takes for them survive day by day. I know this because I served in another unpopular war, Vietnam. We needed public support; we needed to be proud that we were serving at the will of our country.

I am sure the Boy Scouts did obtain approval and from what I have read there was no legal basis for removing their donation boxes. The damage that you have inflicted on our brave fighting men and women and the Boy Scouts, who wanted to provide them with some additional creature comforts will leave and indelible mark.

Maybe you should ask yourself a question “Would I have done this in World War II? “

    Richard Wolf, Veteran US Army

  21. Otis R. Needleman Says:

Weinerman is disgusting. I am ashamed to know she inhabits the same country in which I live. It takes a BIG person to put kids down, doesn’t it. I’m guessing American troops might just have liberated Nazi concentration camps holding some of Weinerman’s relatives. Our troops’ blood pays for Weinerman’s right to hate them.

  22. Marsha Weinerman Says:

I hate the Boy Scouts, I hate the troops, and I hate the United States of America.

  23. Jim Walker Says:

I spent over 20 years in the U.S. Army, defending the rights of the free people of this country. If not for the military, Weinerman would not have the right and freedom to hate the military and the Boy Scouts. If she doesn’t hate the military, then she has no will to stand up against those that would force their ideas of political correctness down everyones throats. She has no right to represent free people at any election. Makes me wonder sometimes if those 20 years of my life were wasted. When will we stand up and start putting people on trial for treason as defined in the Constitution?

  24. Marsha Weinerman Says:

Oh, and I hate myself, too. So there!

  25. Chuck Fetter Says:

    Liberalism is a mental disorder!
All the “Weiner” people in our country should be forced to take the marines advice above… quote: “As a former U.S. Marine, I say that if she can’t stand behind the troops, please stand in front, so they can shoot your sorry a** !!!!”
    How bout it Weiner’wo’man?

Where are the parents of these kids? If I lived in Cambridge, there would be hell to pay for this undermining treasonous act, and she wouldn’t be working in the state!!

  26. Steve Zeigler Says:

It’s all very simple: “Liberals” aren’t.

  27. Bonnie Kruger Says:

    Dear Ms. Weinerman,
I just wanted to let you know how shocked and appalled I am to hear of your shutting down of the care package collection for the troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan by the Boy Scouts of America. I send 5-6 packages to these soldiers each week and I am no more pro-war than you are. Just in case you have never served, and I’m fairly certain you don’t do much volunteer work at all, these packages are eagerly looked forward to by our soldiers and airmen. These are young people who only want to serve their country and are looking for a way to improve their lives often because they come from families who don’t have the money to send them through school without the financial assistance our country provides them upon completion of their service.

To deny us to send packages to all of those people is a slap in the face to them and I hope you understand the disbelief they have with your actions.
How dare you force your inept opinions on the rest of the world?
You should be ashamed of yourself.
    Sincerely,
    Bonnie Kruger

  28. Robert Yost Says:

How dare Weinerman and the “anonymous” complainer go against not only the Boy Scouts but our brave troops by not allowing the scouts to collect care packages for the troops. This was a despicable act.

This could only be the act of anti-American, Communist, Democrats!

    LIBERALS–THE ENEMY WITHIN!
    ABORT LIBERALS, NOT BABIES!

  29. AmberSanchez Says:

Ms. Weinerman is your typical military hating, country hating, self-loathing, anti-American liberal. What else would you expect??? It’s not about the war…it is about being invested in anti-Americanism! Supporting the troops just doesn’t fit into the kook, ultra-left-wing, liberal mindset! Stay tuned! You ‘ain’t seen nuthin yet’ if Hillary/Billary wins the White House in ‘08.

  30. Sgt Mandeville Says:

I wonder if I set up boxes to raise funds to shut down every recuriting station in her district and to force out the anti gay boyscouts would this woman would said anything. Its for a group of “”"OPEN MINDED”" people are the most closed minded it is you lock step with them or else. They want to endoctrinate our youth to thier socialist ideology. Its funny people rsik thier lives to have a small once of freedom we are ready to piss off, I am 3rd generation to serve this great nation in my family, I have no regerts for coming to Iraq and fighting the terrorist, I don’t expect everyone in America to agree with this war, but don’t take it out on childern and soldiers, you have a problem take it up with President Bush, not me. I carry the orders I am given, its not my fault your candiate lost the last 2 elections, get a life get a grip, get over it.

  31. Barbara Lawson Kingsport TN Says:

This lady must have never had anyone close to her serving in the wars that have had these wonderful men an women who volunteer to “serve an protect” her an her family.
I am a grandmother with two grandsons serving in the Navy and Army. Jeffrey (Nav)came home from Iraq in May of this year an Alex is in the Army and left on 11-03-7..his 19th BIRTHDAY. He is now in Iraq.
Am I proud of these kids..You bet. I have sent many packages of FOOD to Jeff when he was in Iraq. He shared these with his buddies so these kids did not go hungry, and yes they get hungry when out on patrol an not have access to a HOT meal. Thanksgiving is next week, When you sit down to Turkey and all the good food we prepare for dinner…REMEMBER that there are kids that will be eating a cold meal out of a can somewhere in this world protecting you.

May AMERICA Bless GOD!!! He has already blessed us an now we need to stand for what we know is right
    Thank you.

DO YOU REMEMBER THE MOVIE “THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING - THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING”? (FUNNY)
WELL NOW WE HAVE THE MINDLESS BUSH HATING LIBERALS (THEY ARE ALREADY HERE)TO TAKE OVER (NOT FUNNY AT ALL)AND HAND OUR COUNTRY OVER TO THE ISLAMOFASCISTS TERRORISTS THEY SUPPORT THROUGH THEIR LEGAL AND POLITICAL

I SUPPORT OUR TROOPS AND MY COUNTRY 1000%.

  33. Shari Goodman Says:

It takes a heartless dispicable human to derail the noble efforts of the boys scouts. At the very least she should apologize or be removed from office. Weinerman may be of Jewish descent, but her action was not in keeping with Jewish values. Shame on you, Weinerman!

  34. Dean Sueck, Iowa Says:

How does one describe Wienerman’s behavior? Atrocious? Horrendous? Well, those for a start.

I have a daughter in the US Army who got back from Iraq a year ago. Her husband is ALSO in the US Army and got back from Iraq a year ago.

During their year long deployments to Iraq (they had a choice to have her go, then him go for a 2 year breakup of the family or get it over with in one fell swoop and chose the latter) my wife and I had the honor and pleasure of raising their two sons 3 and 1. I figure we have a dog in this fight.

It seems that the motto of the left anymore is “What’s wholesome is unwholesome and what’s unwholesome, wholesome.” They attack the Boy Scouts for not letting gays in and they attack the Boy Scouts for supporting our troops.

What this broad needs is to be picked up and dropped into the heart of a Muslim country some day as she is. Let her see what REAL repression is. Let her see the kind of things we’re fighting first hand.

I don’t believe that there was a complaintant. If there was, I want the name of that person published so everyone knows who it is. And I want Ms. Wienerman to explain why this ONE person’s opinion is more important that all of the people serving in the military.

I want to know who this farkin lawyer is too.

  35. Don Holland Says:

Mrs. Wienerman, you have done more through your narrow mindedness to help unite people to support the Boy Scouts and our troops than you can possibly imagine. I know you didn’t intend this to happen but I commend you for it. Keep up the good work, you give us an insight of what it will be like when Hillary is elected President and begins to run the country. Who knows, your actions may help keep this from happening.

  36. Capt Phil Says:

This woman may not be as evil as many here suppose, but she is representative of a class of people who are systematically destroying our country: bureaucrats! They are paid too much for too little, and whenever they can, they figure out ways to get more power, more money, and more control over our lives. Most of them have little real-world experience, haven’t served in the military, and wouldn’t know an M-16 from a Cuisinart! They are like termites, infesting the structure of our Constitution and political system, and all the while, they have little idea of the damage they are doing. When our house of freedom — our republic — comes tumbling down, it will be because of these bureaucrat termites, but the real fault will be ours, for not standing up to them, refusing to abide by their ridiculous, unconstitutional ordinances, rulings and laws, and tossing them out of office as soon as they show their true colors. It’s hard work, but to save the Republic, it must be done.

  37. Paul in Germany Says:

I wonder how she will feel if she were to learn that someone she is related to is currently (or already) served in OIF/OEF. Imagine the look on the face of someone that works for her (who may have lost someone over there defending her right to do that crap she is doing right now) Way to go Weinerman. Why not take a trip to Iraq and tell your story over there to the Soldiers. They would be glad to show you around I am sure.

  38. drsanto Says:

I am an Assistant Cubmaster for Pack 395 in Nebraska.

There is no other large-scale organization in the United States (and across the world, actually) striving harder than the Scouts to bring up our children to “do their best, to do their duty, to God and Country.”

Except for those who voluntarily risk their life and limb for their Community and Country, there is no more patriotic organization in the United States than the Scouts.

Make no mistake, this “anonymous” person doesn’t hate the Scouts, they hate what it represents.

  39. Dona Brown Says:

And, I thought my state of Oregon was liberal. However, in the county I live in they would be lined up for blocks to sign a recall petition and my signature would be at the top…that is if I wasn’t the one sponsoring the petition. We owe everything to our troops and there is no better organization for young boys than the Boy Scouts.

  40. Renee Jones Says:

Congrats! NOW do you understand WHY you should vote for Ron Paul in 2008?? It is time to send a clear message to all Big money politicians - democrats and republicans alike.

  41. Joe - White Lake, MI Says:

Liberalism is a cancer on our nation. It’s borne in our large cities then moves toward the state capitals. From there it eats into the public institutions to establish a host. It’s main target: Public Education. Infect the young and grow the disease exponentially. Viola! The patient is on it’s deathbed.

    The Cure:
    1. Admit you have a disease.
    2. Apply massive doses of radiation to all liberals.
    3. Sweep irradicated debris into bag labeled ‘dung-heap of history’.

  42. A Hardy Says:

    Here’s the letter I sent to Ms Weinerman’s e-mail:
    Dear Ms Weinerman:

Hello to all in Cambridge, Massachusetts!

Thank you for what you have done for all of America!

We do apologize for all the wackos who are attacking you for simply trying to stop the pro-war behavior of the Boy Scouts!

We apologize for the wackos who believe that you should have allowed the Boy Scouts to be pro-war by collecting goods in Cambridge, Mass to send in care packages to our soldiers!

We apologize for the wackos who have told everyone to contact you and tell you that you are wrong for what you’ve done to try to stop the pro-war attitude of the Boy Scouts!

We apologize for all of us wackos who believe that you over-stepped your bounds!

But it’s really kind of funny that you’re being attacked for stopping the Boy Scouts from collecting goods for the soldiers because they are too pro-war! They weren’t being pro-war, they really were expressing pro-care for our soldiers.

Think about it, Ms Weinerman! You’ve really done immense good because instead of stopping pro-war Boy Scouts, you have instead fostered a whole new generation of kids who will be pro-soldier! Just think of all the Boy Scouts who are now dreaming of growing up to be proud American soldiers who protect your right to be anti-war.

We do apologize again, Ms Weinerman for all of us proud Americans who have the nerve to care for our soldiers.

    Sincerely,
    B & A Hardy

  43. Barb in Mendota, IL Says:

Wow! Are you kidding? Since when is supporting our troops a political statement. Did the Scouts have a sign out stating - Support the War? I doubt it. Imagine what our founding fathers would say if they knew the cradle of our country wouldn’t even support our troops. I’m glad our founding countrymen supported the troops 230 years ago. I wonder what our ancestors will be saying about this generation. Let’s all stand up against the liberal agenda now.

  44. Karen S Says:

Since when is it the public duty to respond to a ‘complaint’? Where did this person’s intellect and reasoning go when this complaint came in? It should have told her that the complaint doesn’t warrant her actions. Well, now there are obviously a myriad of ‘complaints’ on the other side. Will she now respond with apology and reparation? I doubt it. Not convenient. Doesn’t suit her idology. Typical of the intellectually dishonest.

  45. Steve Sarver Says:

It’s hard to imagine where are country will be in the next 10 years with this kind of mind set. Hopefully the people of this country will stand up to this kind of nonsense and save our way of life. I would only hope that after this response people holding this kind of power will stop and think about the consequences of there actions no matter what there convictions represent.

  46. Iris Galan Says:

This is my adopted country. My parents brought me here as a very young child - refugees of WW II - to escape the communists who had taken over their homeland. I am a woman and a Vietnam War veteran. I served my country for 20 years as an officer in the US Air Force - fighting communism during the Cold War. People like this woman, and others of her ilk, make me think we lost that war, despite the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Sadly, she and so many others like her, don’t know that they’ve been duped into carrying out the long standing plans of our enemies - to destroy this country from within.

    God Help America!

  47. Stang52 Says:

Ah yes, another fool carrying on the democrapper’s long-time tradition since the founding of the party of being Anti-troop, Anti-Boy Scout, and plain old Anti-American! Perhaps she’d be happier living in the People’s Democratic Party of China where this type of crap is warmly accepted.

  48. Todd Santoro Says:

I believe people are good, but what hapened to Ms. Weinerman? I really think the liberals are still smoking dope from the 70s. I will not hire dopers into my companies so why do we keep electing them.

I love our troops - Get er’ done!

  49. Julie Bartlett Says:

I’m not from Boston–in fact, I’m a Texan–but if I may interject something peculiar I noticed about Ms. Weinerman’s reasoning?

How many times have we heard politicians who are against the war in Iraq say, “I’m against the war, but I’m for the troops”? They are extremely quick to make the distinction, aren’t they?

However, Ms. Weinerman here has basically labeled such rhetoric “hogwash”; to support the troops in any fashion, in her estimation, is to support the war–however innocuous the support may be.

Regardless of your political affiliation, does that make any sense at all?…I didn’t figure so.

  50. Robert Mell Says:

    Bob
    From California
I notice that Weinerman fails to leave us her email address. Does anyone wonder why?
It seems very peculiar that some of those of so-called Jewish decent voice hatred of all things that the real Jewish population believes and supports. Often these
qua-si Jewish persons act more like Nazis in their treatment of others who hold beliefs which do not correspond to theirs. And like almost all of their compatriots they usually demand that their opinion is the only correct opinion. You notice I said OPINION. Opinions being what they are; are by definition are usually statements that are based on vague and conceived ideas of what should be. Like most such concepts such thinking is way out and extreme. Often these ideas are held by persons who wish to subjugate others. It seems that M Weinerman just might be such a person.
Or is it that the “Boy Scouts” stand for GOD derived principals and so is in the eyes of those like M Weinerman and the ACLU to be brought down to their level of what we believe is perversion. Jewish people usually have a strong belief in GOD and practice their belief faithfully. Possibly M W is a name only Jew. Only GOD knows.
From the following quotes made by MW it can be seen that by her own words she not only hates this country and everything it stands for she also hates her self. Is it possible she really needs psychatric help? and possible incarceration? we can only hope.

Oh, and I hate myself, too. So there
One of the other commenter’s said this about the “Boy Scouts” and what they stand for:
    1. There is no other large-scale organization in the United States (and across the world, actually) striving harder than the Scouts to bring up our children to “do their best, to do their duty, to God and Country.”

I guess that we should not expect anything different to come out of this State and town. They have several of the most anti American colleges in the country. Several actually have classes where sedition (treason) is taught and such is encouraged by the school.
Don’t believe; check out the colleges in the state.

  51. Ron Says:

Shame on you, Marsha Weinerman; shame on you, Cambridge! Hate the military, hate the Boy Scouts — what is it with you? Are you trying to compete with San Francisco as the most Un-American city in the country, or what? You’re pathetic!

  52. Carl T Says:

    Ms. Weinerman:

You cannot be against the war and for the troops. It’s just not possible. Of course, we who have sons and daughters fighting in Iraq (have a son and son in law who are Marines deployed in Iraq) want them home. But they responded to the call and are over there preserving our freedoms.
How dare you discredit the efforts of the Boy Scouts…..they are our future.

  53. Paul deWitt Says:

Below is my email to Ms. Weinerman.

    Ms. Weinerman,

As a retired naval officer and former Boy Scout, I am astounded at your recent inexplicable decision to prevent the Boy Scouts from soliciting holiday gifts for our service members who are deployed in Iraq as described in the following link.

    Don’t Ever Change Cambridge

I realize that you and many of your constituents in Cambridge are decidedly anti-military, but that is not a valid reason to allow your political bias to influence a non-political and commendable attempt by the Boy Scouts to support our troops. You and your ilk seem to conflate supporting the troops with support for a policy with which you disagree. The troops are carrying out a lawful order by their commander in chief, who, despite your intense and irrational hatred of him, was duly elected and charged to defend this country. If the Scouts cannot be allowed to solicit holiday gifts for those who are in harm’s way, what, pray tell, is acceptable to you and your liberal friends? I realize you won’t be satisfied with anything less than complete capitulation by the United States in Iraq, and anywhere else we are engaged against our Islamic enemies, since that suits your political agenda. However, you should at least acknowledge that it is the US military that protects your right to made stupid decisions.

  54. Pete Milos Says:

Bravo, Bravo! Way to go! Thank you for helping to ignite and unite the people of this great country to wake up to the fact that ultra liberalism and political correctness are destroying the very social fabric of this nation. Your actions were dispicable, however we appreciate that your apparent ‘momentary lapse of judgment’ has done more to help bring the true American’s of this nation together to stand up for the wrong that you have commited.

So when is the press conference to announce your apology planned for?

God Bless you and your family, you are going to need all the prayer you can get!

  55. John Cochran Says:

Now let me tell you the funny part.
Ms Weinerman, beurocrat (and probably a liberal, we don’t really know), recieved a complaint about the Scouts. She didn’t know the answer and didn’t get a good answer from the legal dept., so she went for the easy answer and shut down the Boy Scouts so she WOULDN’T GET ANY CRAP FROM THE COMPLAINER !!!

What she should have done is take the complaint, tell the complainer she would have to check with the legal dept, and when she got the correct answer, a couple of days later (after the election) told the person it was legal and there were no grounds to shut them down. Job done correctly and no hassles.

  56. Sam Clammer Says:

I feel for the many great people of Cambridge who surely have terrible feelings over this act. Tell Ms. Weinerman at least one person is praying for her. Wonder what she’ll do about that?

  58. George Schneider Says:

They used to throw British tea in the harbor but now they’ve become so warped they throw away food for our own troops. Fault should also be directed at the Boy Scouts and the decent citizens of Cambridge for being such wimps. They should not stand by helplessly and allow Weinerman and the city’s rulers to push them around. Put back the collection boxes and guard them. All it takes for evil people to consolidate their rule is for good people not to stand up to them.

  59. Lee Baldwin Says:

Hey Marsha, You should move to Lenningrad where you will be more at home. All the Boy Scouts there have been executed long ago.

  60. Lee Baldwin Says:

    Marsha-

You should move to Lenningrad where you will be more at home. All the Boy Scouts there were executed long ago.

  61. Tack Anderson Says:

The Boy Scouts have proved once again that no good deed goes unpunished.

How ironic that the official tasked with keeping politics out of the voting process has managed to highlight it.

  62. Larry Baines Says:

The boy scouts have a booth ? Oh, no , this should not be??? Crazy!!! In my opinion this Ms. Weiner(what ever) does not adhere to her Oath of Office and if I NOT mistaked that might make her a liar, by not defending the U.S. Constitution and other laws and intent of laws that are on the books.

  63. Josh Says:

Were those Boy Scouts raising money for Darfur victims or for Gay teens or for AIDS patients or anything else that liberal commie pinkos espouse, Ms Marsha would have wholeheartedly embraced them. This woman should be kicked out of her job. Period.

  64. Stu in San Diego Says:

I was apprehensive at first when I started reading the comments to this despicable story because I thought that there would be many DailyKos or Moveon.org types rising to defend this woman. I am proud that there are as many Americans from as many different backgrounds who see this woman for what she is doing: aiding and abetting the enemy. Make no mistake, the islamo-fascists would chop the heads off everyone commenting on this article if each didn’t convert to their brand of Islam. Thank God that our volunteer military is killing the bastards over there before they can kill us over here. Now if we could just deport a few of these Cambridge types to Iran so they could learn a lesson about the value of freedom, as guaranteed by the U.S. military!

  65. Hannah M Says:

This infuriates me!  These people are crazy, stupid wimps caving in to the negative opinion of one person!  What a bunch of cowards!  They should all be ashamed of themselves.  I’ll never step foot in Cambridge until they show some common sense!

Why doesn’t the woman who complained in the first place come forward to tell us why she objects to such a kind, noble act!  She should burn at the stake!  It looks like the inmates are running the asylum in Cambridge!  God help us!  Bless the Boy Scouts for their good intentions!  Wait till Bill O’Reilly gets ahold of this!

  66. Jim in Sarasota Fl. Says:

Im so thankfull that I moved out of Myassachusetts. God help those of you who have to still put up with people like her.
I’m going to send a care package to the troups with a link to this story.
Whats Mitt got to say about this?

  67. Cathy Says:

Lets not let this woman stop us from sending our troops gifts. This is AMERICA, she is in the wrong country. We as american’s don’t act this way. We can stop people like her. We vote them out or we don’t vote them in. We must take our country back from the immature people running it. America and the men and women that protect her should come first. Not some party that has lost its way. God, yes God Bless America!!!!

  68. Denise Davis Says:

The story I heard about denying the troops support and gift packages almost made
me sick while I was driving my car. I can only hope that one day you will
understand what the troops are sacraficing, whether there is a war or not. I
don’t care what your position is politically (although it’s quite obvious) what
I do care about is making sure that the men and women who volunteered to serve
and protect us are taken care of and supported. This is done with praise,
encouragement, providing every need for them and their families, and gift
packages to remind them that we love them for doing what we can’t. How dare you
discourage the boy scouts from acting out in compassion and service to our men
and women in uniform. Your negativity speaks volumes. I can only hope that
this is overturned. I’m doing my part today by sending a christmas care package
to one of our service men today. If you are not interested in doing this, that
is your right. ( also known as a freedom that was fought for with blood by our
service men and women) How easily you have forgotten. Do not however, presume
that the rest of the world is as ungrateful as you are.
    Signed,
Thankful I don’t live in your state

  69. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen B. Ferrall Says:

    Dear Weinerman,

It’s not enough that you think that this Republic is not democratic and should be run by a minority plus one, YOU! But, you condemn yourself to the dung heap by lying about it to boot. You do not belong in government. You even at your level see yourself fit to be a despotic tyrant over the majority who want to do a good thing. You are all about doing a bad thing, no 2 bad things. What are you doing in government with authority over voting? You should have been Seinfeld’s “Soup Nazi!

I ask for your immediate removal and dismissal, or your public apology to the Cambridge Boy Scouts and to our troops, as well as the citizens of Cambridge whom you voted against in your one vote condemnation of good works by kids. You cut quite an example for today’s youth…of how not to live! Did you ask them how they felt? Right now I’m certain you now know how “we the people” feel. Eat your crow and get on with the business you were hired and paid for to do, and keep your long nose out of business that in no-wise concerns you!

Sincerely, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen B. Ferrall

  70. Tommy Moore Says:

Here is a city I consider to be the largest,
outdoor mental institution in the world.
    What a shame!

  71. Norm Olsen Says:

Being a retired Air Force Master sergeant and former Boy Scout and now a Boy Scout Leader, I am extremely disappointed in Ms Weinerman’s decision. She is not supportive of the ways the majority want their children brought up in. The scouts stand for promoting responsibility towards others and thereby bringing young boys up to be responsible adults. What better way than having a drive for the troops in harms way and their families. The fact is this was not political until Ms Weinerman made it so through her decision to pull the booths. The scouts are only trying to help the troops. whether you are for or against the war, at least Ms Weinerman should have supported the scouts in their program. This puts a bad face on the political leaders of Cambridge as well as Ms Weinerman. It’s time for a change.

  72. Trinidad A. Williams Says:

Oh!, but for the love of GOD and for the despicable action that has united true patriots of the United States of America together and voiced their displeasure… you Ms. Weinerman, I would steep in a cauldron of tea and have a liberal tea party for the idiots you uphold.

  73. Carl Ray Says:

I find it most disturbing that in this age
of trying to find good doable things for
young people that a city government official
has chosen to stifle freedom of expression
to of all gruops, the Boy Scouts. Pro War!!!
Indeed!!! tsk, tsk, tsk. If anything, they
are pro people for caring enough to remember
those young men and women half a world away
so that people like Marsha Weinerman may
exercise her freedom of expression also.

Shame on Cambridge. Every city in america
likes good press, unfortunately, this is not
the press that Cambridge will be remembered
    for.

  74. Jeff Souza Says:

How dare you stop the good efforts of Boy Scouts trying to boost the morale of our soldiers! ONE person complained so the whole system buckled. What does that say about the backbone and integrity of our leadership? NOT MUCH !!!!

Political Correctness is going to destroy our great nation. If someone was offended by this, get over it. We are all offended by something at one time or another; that’s life. This isn’t a fairy tale we’re living. If you don’t agree with their efforts, that’s fine; BUT…….don’t stop the good deeds the Boy Scouts are doing.

They are trying to help the troops that are fighting so hard to preserve your right to live your life the way you do.
Pardon my attitude. but you and others like you are one spineless group of officials.

You are so afraid of not being politically correct; you stop the good from being done.

PLEASE reconsider and do the right thing. Don’t punish the troops just because you might not agree with the war.

    Jeffrey & Nancy Souza

  75. Randy Cohen Says:

As I read this artical I thought back to my 20+ years of naval sevice and what it boiled down to was so that Americans would have the right to speak their minds be they right or wrong. I surely don’t agree with ms Weinermans actions I have serous doubts of her abilities to hold her elected position and if I lived in Cambridge i would call for her to be removed from office.
Those of us who have served,or lost friends or family in any war know the horror but there are to many politicans who have never served and don’t have a clue. Maybe military service should be a requirement before a political career.
To the scouts who were collecting for the troops that day i say great job keep up the good work they need your support be it a card or a care package.
To the cold hearted politicans there’s nothing to say as it would be a waste of time and would fall on deaf ears.

  76. C.K. Amos Says:

The Boy Scout’s benevolent activity a political message?

Having once lived in the People’s Republic of Cambridge, while disgusted with what’s happened, I’m not surprised by the behavior of the complaining resident’s nor that of the city official’s and the city government’s as well as the absurd labeling of the boys’ actions as a political message.

You wonder: Have the complainant or city official have ever worn an Armed Forces uniform of the U.S.? Do they know anyone who’s served or does serve? Probably neither had their own countrymen and countrywomen spit at them or deride them with their eyes, mouths, pens, keyboards and cameras.

Both individuals’ behavior, as well as that of the city government who empowered the official — are preposterous, callous, pusillanimous, hateful and execrable polite enough to describe those behaviors? — only make that of the Boy Scouts that much more admirable and noble, even mature.

They understand that genuine love and caring and giving aren’t constrained by temporal inventions such as politics or ideology. And that sacrifice and service are forms of love. And that you can be kind to anyone, anywhere, anytime.

Maybe the city resident’s, Ms. Weinerman’s and the City of Cambridge’s individual and collective actions here really are a disguised blessing. After all, who but the navel-gazing liberals and their allies could’ve scripted and then produced this yet-another-can’t-be-hidden signal about their moral and intellectual dishonesty, if not vacuity?

  77. Joyce Zell Says:

    November 18,2007
Just wanted to commend someone for standing up for the Boy Scouts and our precious men and women who freely serve our country under such diffucult conditions. Yhey are there even to protect her. I thank God every day that our President at the foresight to Fight the terrorist over there, rather than here where so many citzens only know how to protest. I admire Our Boy Scouts of America andwhat they stand for and represent. God Bless America as you always have and may I say God I repent for a nation that was formed under God,who has fallen to such depths of Hate, Crime, Sin and division.

  78. Beth Cornell Says:

I do not see it as a pro-war message. I see it as a couple of kids doing their civic duty as scouts. Get off your high horses Democrats!!

  79. Chip Patten Says:

A couple of questions need to be asked here; Why were the boxes placed inside the polling places to begin with? Who told the leaders it was o.k to do so? Why weren’t they placed outside near the entry or someplace neutral. The problem here is it sets a precedent for any group or cause to jockey for the spot. What I find most amazing is the lack of forethought in this whole decision making process. This is a situation where a little bit of thinking would have gone a long way. The upside of this debacle is decisions will be made concerning community service and how to keep it healthy. As for the mob mentality of finding fault instead of offering solutions it’s nice to know that the sport is alive and well.

  80. Lori Says:

How can we send money directly to the Scouts so that they can BUY items for the care packages?

  81. Lori Says:

sorry, missed the part about the polling places. just got the link to leave a message.

  82. Anthony Mantova Says:

Amazing disregard for one of America’s greatest traditional youth groups. Ms. Weinerman ought to resign.

  83. Star Says:

    While I don’t agree with Mrs. Weinerman’s
decision at all, I also don’t see where it says which party she belong to. I think open discussion is essential to democracy. However the need to brand people with labels “liberal” (perhaps this was a legally conservative decision)or to call names at all distracts from the clarity of discussion and certainly turns off people who support the Boy Scouts and the Troops.
If you want do something instead of hurling abuse www.dothenicething.com has address to send packages to troops or send that Boy Scout troop a donation. My Thanks to you all who expressed clear opinions without calling anyone a name.

  84. Chad Thatcher Says:

After writing a response above on the 15th, I have returned to this forum, and It makes me proud to be an American and to see how Americans have united against the tyranny and treason against something so morally sound as the Boy Scouts of America. Before I was a U.S. Marine, I was a boy scout and learned values that a lot of our young people don’t learn today. I am 35 and was a School Police ofiicer in S. Texas. Since we have taken God and manners out of our schools, Our country has run amok because of the liberals like those in Cambridge. But after reading the above responses, it reassures my faith in America and the people who support our troops (and Boy Scouts)!

  85. Bill Says:

Hi. I’ve opposed the Iraq War from the start. It’s an unjust war; we shouldn’t have started it and we shouldn’t stay. The propaganda that seemed to justify it as defensive has turned out to be untrue.

I have mixed feelings about supporting the troops. On the one hand, individual servicemen and women can’t be blamed for the mistakes and disingenious motives of their leaders. On the other hand, you have to take responsibility for your choices in life, and that includes the choice to sign up with an empire-building military that invades other countries and kills countless civilians (and killing the defender’s military people isn’t so moral either).

I compare it to “what if someday my son were to join a gang”. I wouldn’t support him in this endeavor, but I certainly wouldn’t want any harm to come to him. Most of all I’d just want him to quit and come home. That’s the way I feel about the troops in Iraq.

I don’t take this event as an affront to Boy Scouts (I’m a former Boy Scout, by the way). Aside from the political issue, polling places are for the business of conducting elections. Stuff unrelated to voting shouldn’t be going on in that space that day.

    -Bill

  86. Dorothy Says:

First to Bill (message left 11/19) If you can not stand behind our troops Please feel free to Stand in front of them. My son is a Marine, he joined the service. He is defending your right to say the things you said. It is a shame that you want all the rights of being an American, but you would not defend those rights. And that you would be ashamed to let your son defend those rights. That to me is saying your are not nor will you ever be a TRUE American. You want all the rights but will not help to keep those rights. This is true of alot of people that live here.
I am very proud of my son, he is doing something that is true and right. You may not support the war but Please support OUR Troops. The news media will not tell you the truth about this war. The troops can. Ask a returning service man whay they are there.

  87. Bill Says:

Dorothy, IMO only about 10% of what the military does actually protects Americans.

If your son is doing part of that 10%, great, what I’m about to say doesn’t apply to your son.

However if “protecting my rights” means invading countries that are not a threat to us and doing countless other things that are either unrelated to defending the U.S. and/or are counterproductive in that they incite hatred of the U.S. in other parts of the world, then please tell your son ‘thanks but no thanks’.

As I said earlier I have mixed feelings about supporting the troops. We need a military but currently the military is being misused. Maybe your son signed up right after 9/11; that would be noble intent. However in the intervening years it’s become clear that the Iraq invasion and even the Afghanistan invasion were not really about protecting America.

Serving in the military is not automatically “true and right”. Sometimes it’s wrong. My ancestors fought in the American Revolution. One of them, Abner Hosmer, was killed in the first battle. The soldier who shot him probably had a mother back home in England who was very proud of her Redcoat son fighting overseas.

  88. Jonathan O'Connor Says:

A Different Kind of Christmas Poem

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light, I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.

My wife was asleep, her head on my chest, my daughter beside me, angelic in rest.

Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.

My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
so I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn’t loud, and it wasn’t too near, But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear. Perhaps just a cough, I didn’t quite know, Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.

My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near. Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night, a lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.

A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.

“What are you doing?” I asked without fear,
“Come in this moment, it’s freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve, you should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!”

For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts..

To the window that danced with a warm fire’s light. Then he sighed and he said “Its really all right, I’m out here by choice. I’m here every night.”

“It’s my duty to stand at the front of the line, That separates you from the darkest of times. No one had to ask or beg or implore me, I’m proud to stand here like my fathers before me. My Gramps died at ‘ Pearl on a day in December,” Then he sighed, “That’s a Christmas ‘Gram always remembers.”

My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ‘ Nam ‘,And now it is my turn and so, here I am. I’ve not seen my own son in more than a while, but my wife sends me pictures, he’s sure got her smile.

Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag, the red, white, and blue… an American flag.

I can live through the cold and the being alone, away from my family, my house and my home.

I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet, I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat. I can carry the weight of killing another, or lay down my life with my sister and brother..

Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall.”

“So go back inside,” he said, “harbor no fright, your family is waiting and I’ll be all right.”

“But isn’t there something I can do, at the least, give you money,” I asked, “or prepare you a feast?

It seems all too little for all that you’ve done, for being away from your wife and your son.”

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret, “Just tell us you love us, and never forget. To fight for our rights back at home while we’re gone, To stand your own watch, no matter how long.

For when we come home, either standing or dead, to know you remember we fought and we bled.

Is payment enough, and with that we will trust, that we mattered to you as you mattered to us.”

    Amen.

Re: “Local Boy Scouts in Boston were collecting care package items to send to the troops during this holiday season - that is until city officials stepped in, called law enforcement and shut down their care package collections for the troops.”

    Dear Ms. Weinerman,

I am sure that by now you have been the recipient of an entire mailbox full of complaints about your handling of this situation. Might I make a common-sense suggestion for the future?

The next time someone makes such an idiotic complaint, either (a) point and laugh, or (b) tell them that anyone who is so stupid as to not be capable of differentiating between support for our poor kids that the megalomaniacs shipped overseas, and support for the actions of the megalomaniacs, is below the IQ level of a competent adult and has no business being at the polling booths in the first place.

    Problem solved.

    Lorri Carr

  90. Chad Thatcher Says:

    To Jonathan O’Connor,
thank you for the great poem and the true patriotism for all who have left remarks.
To Bill, by joining the military and swearing allegiance to defend the constitution, We are protecting the United States, no matter what the miltary persons role in his or her service. They are protecting your right to freedom of speech. It’s obvious you have not served in the military and are one of the idiots who would stand out in the street and protest against the war, which in return demoralizes the troops. You don’t have to agree with the war, but stand behind all our troops, or as i said in my first entry, “stand in front so they can shoot your sorry A**!!!

  91. Bill Says:

Chad, let me get this straight: You’re saying the troops should shoot U.S. citizens who protest the war? So much for your lip service to the Constitution. Hah!

Fortunately most people leaving comments here aren’t that extreme. To anyone who has a loved one overseas, fighting in a conflict that is meaningless at best and may actually be laying the foundation for worse wars to come, wouldn’t you really rather have your loved one safely at home?

    Happy Thanksgiving.

    -Bill

  92. Alan Hamilton Says:

    Dear Ms Weinerman,

Let me say first that I am British and I’ve served in Iraq along with members of the armed forces and civilian authorities of 20 or more other nations. And I was, for many years a Boy Scout and a Scout Leader.

Your decision seems to show me that your ability to differentiate between an act of humanity for those in a danger zone from a tawdry political message. The people that you are failing by your inept handling of this are your own soldiers (US Army, USN, USMC, USAF, Regulars, Reservists, National Guard and others) who live under threat in poor conditions, who regularly participate in dangerous activities to bring stability and aid to others.

What the Scouts were out to do was something that you cannot understand. They were trying to show that some cared at an important time of year for those separated from home and loved ones. Something I fear that you seem to have forgotten or perhaps never had.

There is a world of a difference between being “Pro-Soldier-in-a-dangerous-place” and “Pro-War”. If you cannot see this because of the plank in your own eye then I fear for your version of democracy.

What you did has brought you and your organisation into disrepute internationally.

Your best course of action now is to apologise and resign - in that order.

  93. Dorothy Says:

I guess Bill did not get what we have been saying to him about standing in front of the
troops. What the saying ” If you can not stand behind our troops, then please stand in front of them.” what that means sir is if you can not support our troops, then maybe you can go to Iraq and stand if front of them. That does not mean that the troops are going to shoot you. They will probably try and save you. You just don’t get what being a TRUE American means. You might not agree with the war, but does that give you the right to blame the troops. They are doing their job. As I said you need to talk to a returning military person and ask them what are we doing there. They just might open your very closed eyes. You only listen to the news, and they sure are not going to tell you the whole truth.

  94. Otis R. Needleman Says:

I have seen many great comments in support of our troops and the Boy Scouts. Thanks, from a veteran. Can anyone tell me what happened to Weinerman? Being Cambridge, she was probably given a civic award for her anti-American activities. And Bill, don’t blame the troops for ANY war. Politicians start wars. Our troops just fight the wars politicians start.

  95. Peter Wightman Says:

    Dear Marsha Weinerman,
Don’t you just wish you had wound your neck down a little. Assuming you are paid in your capacity as executive director of the city’s Election Commission, then you have your snout in the public trough. You also swore to uphold the Constitution I would suggestthatyou donate your salary to the Boy Scouts.
If a resident complained, and that was (1)one residents subject call about the message being “pro-war”, then why not be
up front and divulge the individuals name.
You then have the temerity to use the royal ” WE”. Who exactly is “WE”. Who contacted the law department - they have a name(s), and exactly who in the law department determined that the best of their collective brains, determined that the best course of action would be to remove the boxes.
Unless you can come up with names I am left with the distinct impression that you have an agenda of hating Boy Scouts, hating to see any support given to our troops.
This makes you completely out of step with the many writers who dislike your actions,
Finally lets reverse roles, imagine you were in Germany say 1939,Nazi Executive for the election commission and someone complained about Hitler Youth collecting
aid packages for Wermacht troops in Poland and you ordered their removal. Ever wonder what would happen - let me tell you, there would be a quick visit from the Gestapo and you would be on your way to Dachau
    Nuff said

  96. Dude Says:

The boy scouts are unamerican and inmoral all they do is teach hate you to gate your fellow man.

    They also wear gay shorts.

  97. Mark Thompson Says:

Why do people get so offended or extreme when someone says that the US is no longer the best place to live or for that matter not a good place to live at all?? Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and many places in Europe do trump the US in quality of life standards. The US dollar is toast and not coming back, our natural rescources are depleted, even Brazil has passed us in Agribusiness exports quality and price. It’s over for us here…..and bad leadership is a big part of it.
