Holiday Cheer Means Wearing a Red Sweater

1197993544Much like annual performances of A Christmas Carol, there are only so many ways a politician can do a holiday-themed campaign ad. Of course, each politician will have festive music playing, keep the mud-slinging to a minimum, and will try to avoid alienating Jewish voters. But when we saw Mike Huckabee’s new holiday campaign spot, we were irate. Not because of its heavy Christian message, but because he stole the whole concept from our boy Ron Paul.

When we read about Mike Huckabee’s message of good cheer, we got suspicious.

Wearing a red holiday sweater and sitting in front of a twinkling Christmas tree as a carol plays, the former Arkansas governor tells viewers they’re probably tired of political ads, so he just wants to remind them of what really matters during the holiday: friends, family, and “the celebration of the birth of Christ.”

How peculiar. Just last week Ron Paul sat in front of some bookshelves and wished us a Merry Christmas and “an absolutely great 2008.” He also wore a red shirt as his family sang “Deck the Halls.” Now we’ve got Huckabee in a red shirt, wishing us a Merry Christmas and “magnificent Christmas season” as a Casio keyboard version of “Silent Night” plays in the background.

We like our boy Paul’s ad best, and not only because we’re biased. Huckabee enthuses about the importance of family and friends at this time of year, but he’s shot alone. Ron Paul’s entire brood shows up to personally sing to us as they decorate a white tree. And Mrs. Paul made some pumpkin pie!

We’re on to you, Huckabee. If you launch a blimp anytime soon, we’re calling shenanigans.

    Thanks Amy. Right on.

    Spot on!

  3. Philip D. Gaston Says:

Amen to this. Huckabee blatantly steals all of Paul’s ideas. No IRS? Candidate of home schoolers? The genuine candidate who says what he believes? The underdog? And now the holiday ad?! (And his supporters are copying the moneybomb idea too.) Huck, you have gone too far. Hopefully the people will recognize that you are just a smooth talking preacher and not the candidate you are portraying; for that candidate is actually Ron Paul

  4. simple folk Says:

The simple fact is: Wishing all of us merry Christmas is a universal message, Paul, Huck or not!

  5. Mike Says:

Huckabee couldn’t get his son in the ad because he’s still grounded for killing dogs and his wife can’t bake. Wouldn’t you just love to spend the holidays with Ron Paul’s family…this is easy to do…vote for him!!!!

    A Canadian for Ron Paul

  6. Aware Conservative Says:

Huck is being pumped up to blunt the RP Revolution. He’s Ron Paul without The Constitution, the principles and record to prove it. Look at Huck’s donations compared to the good doctor. Not even close. The media, at the bidding of the Neo-Con GOP, is using Huck & Jesus to create another Pat Buchanon…I.e. a decoy for the bible-belt voters to cast their lot with (so as to lose to an ultra-liberal republican who will then lose to Hillary and co.) It’s the same formula that put the Bushes in the Whitehouse, not to mention Slick Willie. Now comes Hillary. That’s the endgame. Ron Paul is the obvious choice, except for those committed to militant socialism. We’ll see what happens in the primaries. Thanks.

Mike Huckabe — Wrapped in a flag, carrying a cross, wearing a red sweater.

  8. Traci Says:

I think Mike Huckabees use of a christian holiday just proves that he is unfit for office….all over the news this morning its being said that the visual “cross” thats gleaming over his shoulder is a message of him being a christian. He is a liar, a thief, and has questionable ethics, to me this makes him very non christian…it makes him a hypocrite, i dont care what his religion is, he wont defend the constitution and will NEVER get my vote. He also is slamming Mitt Romney on his religion and questions whether he is a christian…one could ask the same about Huckabee. He makes my stomach turn and is channeling Jim Baker as well as Ron Paul.

  9. Justin Says:

    Oust the Mountebanks!

  10. Jim FreedomWon Says:

Great Job Amy! The truth works all the time.
Dr. Ron Paul has been delivering the same message for 25 years. The other guy for 25 minutes.
Mike only needed to have his children singing in the background. That would be a little closer to the truth.

  11. deepak Says:

I have been listening to these politiciens for a year now.
And in the past few months they have been stealing Ron Paul’s ideas!!
they mencione the word “Constitution” more often and talk about freedom.
Mike Huck is the type that uses religion to get to power and I hate that type.
His records do not support his message !!
It is too bad that Americans are falling this
    Cheers

  12. Brian Says:

I love it… LOL GReat article.. Go Ron Paul Go!

  13. new years revolution Says:

I think that cross symbolism is a bit TOO MUCH. I think most campaign managers are still using the old strategies and not sure how to combat the revolution.

Great ad though and I personally have no issues against the man minus a bit TOO over the top on the cross there.

  14. Jeff Says:

They say that imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

Mr. Huckabee is starting to look like a really big fan of the good Dr.

    Nice article, keep it up!

  15. funkmasterizzy Says:

You think that’s stealing, compare Fryer Huck’s campaign website to our boy Paul’s.

  16. Kathleen Says:

Huck has been copying Paul in all sorts of ways from debate answers to fundraising. I would not be surprised to see a blimp.

    Ron Paul in 2008!

  17. frank parker Says:

We call this “dipping into an empty quiver” around here.

I think they never anticipated someone like Ron Paul actually throwing his hat into the ring and so their pre-selections didn’t get the “oh well, he’s all we’ve got” response from the people.

Buckle up, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

  18. JenaS62 Says:

Huckabee is shamelessly stealing everything Ron Paul. Truly pathetic.

  19. brian Says:

Ron Pauls message of freedom, liberty, and peace is a powerfull message. the elimination of the IRS, a secrative government, and bringing the troops home hits a major vibe with the American people.. The 4 darlings of the status quoe. Mccain, Romney, Thompson, and Julie-annie Suck. the establishment knows they have given lame ducks this year. They also know Ron Paul is the only one who would demolish Hillary Clinton in the general election. So what do they do.. we better bring in a fake “Christian” preacher and build him up to take votes away from Ron Paul! the establishment is running scared.. every tactic they use is easy to spot now. The American People are starting to wake up! Ron Pauls message has been let out and its spreading greatly! We Ron Paul supporters welcome those of you who like the huckster.. come to the good side… and support your CONSTITUTION! RON PAUL IN 08′09′10′11′12′13′14′15′

  20. Tom Says:

from “abolish the IRS” to “one day money bomb” Huckabee steals ideas from Ron Paul but in the end it only exposes him as a loser.

  21. Kevin Houston Says:

I guess we’ll have to add a stage to Ghandi’s famous quote

    First they ignore you,
    then they laugh at you,
    then they fight you,
then they pretend to agree with you,
    then you win.

    Later

  22. Keith Says:

In the Pr**k of the year award race, Huckabee is certainly giving Guliani a run for his money .

  23. Chris S Says:

“from “abolish the IRS” to “one day money bomb” Huckabee steals ideas from Ron Paul but in the end it only exposes him as a loser.”

Yes, except that Huckabee needs the force, coordination, and “advice” of a herd of establishment folks in order to emulate what Ron Paul’s supporters are doing for him.

  24. Ryan Healy Says:

That is a funny story. I can’t believe how much Huckabee is “borrowing” from Ron Paul. First his Freedom Lives donation day (copying the Tea Party and November 5th), now this.

  25. David Says:

Imitation is a sincere form of flattery–not!

  26. Carlos Says:

Huckabee is the Polystation 3 of politics.

  27. JIM Says:

Did you ever think that Huckabee might be an implant by the elites to derail Ron Paul. We all know Huckabee doesn’t really believe what he says. Also, his sudden rise to fame is a bit suspicious, to say the least

  28. Matt Says:

And it’s not Huckabee alone who is mirroring elements of Ron Paul’s message, although Huckabee is the most obvious one. It’s candidates from both parties. For example, several of them are beginning to emphasize the an adherence to the constitution more and more. But for Ron Paul supporters, they are not buying it. Ron Paul says that he has instigated this “revolution” because of the message alone. While I appreciate Paul’s modesty, it is not the message alone that is inspiring so many people to join the movement. The only person who can preach this type of message is the person who has lived it. Ron Paul has never contradicted himself for over 20 years. That means no flip-flops, no caving in because of political pressure, no legislating for votes.

He is clearly a man of principle and this is evidenced by his record. The American public, especially young people, are very sensitive to the hypocrisy and corruption in government. For Ron Paul supporters, it is time to elect someone of virtue. It is time to elect someone who they are absolutely sure will do what they say when they are in power.

  29. Buck Says:

In one of the earlier debates Huckabee made a statement that some things are absolute and leaving the decision on abortion up to individual states is morally wrong- in an obvious attack on Ron Paul.
Sinced then, both Huckabee and Romney proclaimed in TV interviews that they are all for states rights on the issue of abortion. Weak characters and no solid stances on important issues makes them unfit for the job of the president.

Why vote for a bad copy when you can have the real thing?

  30. michael brown Says:

Paul’s ad and campaign works because it is AUTHENTIC!
You can’t fake it! America is waking up to the fraudulent!
Paul, speaks from the heart, without an eye on the applause meter. Finally, a principled candidate!

  31. DC Wornock Says:

Hope Arkansas is a small town of a little over 10,000 not far from where I live. Isn’t it amazing that it has produced the slickest politicians in the last 20 years?

If you are a small government conservative and believe what Huckabee says, which means you don’t look at his record, you will love him. If you are for a big spending, big government liberal that believes in telling others how to live their lives and you can ignore his ethics, you will love Huckabee.
