Whose Fans Are Crazier: American Idol, or the Red Sox?
People who are overzealous for any cause make us nervous. The fainting women at Barack Obama rallies leave a deeply unsettled feeling. He is, after all, still a politician. People who chastise strangers for their religious beliefs get on our nerves too. But the people who bother us the most are American Idol fanatics.
Don’t get us wrong—we watch that stupid show. But we don’t troll Google alerts in order to pick a fight with some random blogger who says my contestant of choice sucks. (Hello, Taylor Hicks fans!) It’s just a pointless fight that means nothing in the grand scheme of life.
That said, we’re beginning to have the same attitude toward Red Sox fans.
Some of our best friends are huge Red Sox fans, but none of them would shove a child to get an player’s autograph as Kevin Cullen describes in his column today.
Whenever one of the players stopped, some of the adults - not a lot of them, but too many - pushed and squeezed kids aside. How any supposed grown-up could consciously use their reach and size to beat out a kid for an autograph is beyond me.
Allow me to corroborate Cullen’s story with a personal anecdote.
Last summer, I took the three kids I babysit to catch the last game of the year for the Paw Sox. At the end of the game, players and the grounds crew tossed soft souvenir baseballs into the crowd. The older kids fended for themselves pretty well, but I was holding their 3-year-old sister and helping her catch a ball.
I had one in my hand as a fat guy in a Harley Davidson hat tried to wrench it away from me.
“She’s three,” I hissed at him. “Let her have the damn ball.” He rolled his eyes, let go of the ball, and slinked away.
It was a souvenir ball. From McCoy. And this guy was ready to ruin the day of a kid who was barely out of diapers to get it. This bad behavior may be proof the fanaticism has gone to the American Idol fangirl level. Next thing you know, that fat guy with the Harley hat will have a sign that reads “Red Sox, I’m you’re [sic] biggest fan!!!!!” in pink puffy paint.

Same story at a Pittsburgh Penquins hockey game… my 5 yr.old nephew got hit with a puck in the face and some 40 yr.old DUDE snatched it up which made everyone around me start chanting “..give the kid the puck..give the kid the puck…!!!!!” He did, but he looked like he just lost his best friend….I mean, C’MON !!! (oh…yeah..btw… SOUL PATROL !!)

My baseball grabbing anecdote…
I was at a game with my father and a neighbor when I was a kid. A ball was fouled off, and hit an adult in the stomach, bounced to the ground/floor and the neighbor scooped it up and gave it to me. I still have it.
The rule is the kid always gets the ball.

Us Taylor Hicks fans are not crazy at all..we just know that nobody should be talking bad about the next Elvis. You haters better watch out, cause as soon as he finds himself a new record label, he’s going to become the best selling artist of all times. Why even if he don’t find a label, he’ll still be outselling everyone with his self made CD that’s being sold exclusively out of his trunk. At least that way he count each and everyone of them sales himself, so that he don’t go missing any of them. I guess you all know by now about how Clive paid every store to misplace 10,000,000 of Taylor’s sales from his first CD. If that would have never happened then Taylor would be able to take his rightful place as the best selling Idol in the history of that show.
I’m gonna go now and stare at my spit filled harmonica I paid just $400.00 for at Taylor’s last mallcert. Ain’t nothin in life more fun than that.

Taylor Hicks has changed the face of music. If it wasn’t for him, other artists would have no idea how to drop off a chart in record time, or get dropped from their label. They wouldn’t even know how to drop on the floor during a basketball game. Because of Taylor, other artists will now be able to fail. Wasn’t that nice of him to teach everyone that?

Why does everyone hate Taylor Hicks. He is a great singer and even greater person. If someone took a ball from a kid Taylor would be the first to get it back and hand it to the kid. He has done so much charitable work for kids and for “M” to suggest the 40 year might have been Taylor Hicks shows their stupidity and how little they know about the man - Taylor Hicks. Taylor always gives back - to charities and to our Troops.
I am not a Soul Patrol member but I do respect the man and what he has done and I have and will continue to buy his music, which is REAL music, not screaming, not bashing anyone - just good music.

I bought 2,000 copies of Taylor’s CD, and I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think he was the best. I gave most of them away, but then I got given them back at Christmas. I guess all my friends, relatives, co-workers and people I’d never met before just couldn’t think of anything else I’d rather have than a CD by the next Elvis.

SP- Wake up and realize that this is 2008, NOT 2006. Taylor might have won on a reality show because of his rapid fans redialing the phone for hours each week, but that was almost two years ago, and what has he done since then?? Let’s see..he dropped off the charts, his sales dropped to 100 per week so he got dropped from his label, attendence at his concerts dropped so much that his tickets prices dropped to being “free”.. He then started doing free concerts in overseas malls, and weddings. He then dropped out of site, but wait, he made an appearance on a celebrity basketball game and spent the whole time dropping to the floor. That pretty much sums up Taylor’s 5 seconds of fame. Also, the most stupid remark that all of you make is to think that fans of Daughtry are jealous of Taylor winning on AI almost two years ago. Does almost 4 million sales ring a bell???? What about 3 AMA’s, a PCA, and four Grammy nominations? Come back to reality, SP. No one is living in the past, except for your pathetic fanbase, or what’s left of it.

Marian, I never said that I attended a Hicks concert, but I do know the facts..His last concert on his tour was FREE and the overseas mallcerts were also FREE! I consider myself pretty rational, somewhat, but enough to know that no #1 : Daughtry is successful no #2 : The year is 2008 and no# 3 that Daughtry croaked out a song sooo bad he ended up in the bottom two and was sent home. American Idol wanted him to win, they tried everything… it wasn’t that fans tied up the phone lines THAT particuliar week. Taylor Hicks had a strategy and he lured me in that year with his performance. 2007 and so far 2008 are pretty lukewarm. That’s all I know. My opinion only.

Said it kept the floor drier than it’d been at any of his other concerts, and that’s important when you’ve got busloads coming in from the retirement homes. Just unbelievable and disgusting. To whoever reads these comments I am sorry. It is not Taylors fault and it is not his fans fault. The person who said that there are people who will not be happy until they have Taylors head on a platter for winning a show is right. They have told me that. They are disgusting, replusive people as you can tell from their comments.
Just for the record the so-called “free” concerts overseas were free to the public. Taylor was paid well by the corporation. Quite well. And the shows were packed with people who loved him and the media was very good to him.
His tour shows did great all through his tour. Most were sold out. A few not.
His album did remarkably well with the problems he was given. And I hope no one forgets that his first two great independent albums sold very, very well. All money that is his, not AIs. Something that made AI very unhappy. He has done very well.
The people who make these comments about Taylor are sad, disgusting trolls who harbor some kind of a bitter hate for a man that is just trying to live his dream. Its just sad.

Lets see, which of these is more pathetic:
1. A group of people who hate a man they don’t really know, and have never even met, so much that they devote their time to finding every article, blog, etc., written about the man and bombard it with insulting, ignorant, and just plain wrong comments.
2. A group of people who are fans of a musician and try their best to support him whenever possible, even when they know that they will be attacked and ridiculed for that support.
3. Bloggers and other writers who intentionally provoke and encourage the conflict between the first two groups in order to increase hits and interest in their otherwise barely noticed and totally insignificant publications
And for the record, sports fandom has been at a level of craziness far surpassing AI nuttiness for many, many years. Being in Boston, you should be well aware of this. The AI stuff is just a minor league version of the Yankees vs. the Sox.

Tay_What, If I had known Taylor had done that for you, I would have tried to get him to sign my armpits. I’m sure he would have been more than happy to do that for me. Did I tell you that the last concert I went to had 20 people at it? Now that just shows that Taylor is indeed picking up new fans every second and has been for over a year now. I’m sure he knows just how important it is to do this since most of his fans are in the 90+ age group, and there’s no telling how much more thudding they’re going to be able to take.

ComeBacktoReality: I can tell you have not been to any of Taylor’s concerts. If you had been, you would be singing his praises just as we fans are. I am amazed at how many people jump to criticize an artist when they really do not know their charisma, and stage persona. Taylor brought back to the stage the same charisma Elvis had, the same joy of singing, and an amazing joy in music. Why bash an artist as so many on this site are doing, and as so many on other sites are doing? As stated earlier, it must make your day happier than a miserable existence so many of you portray through your posts. Believe me, if you’d go to one of Taylor’s concerts, you would realize the joy of music a singer can relay, and would get caught up in it. There are few singers who can do that today.

I’ve been to every Taylor Hicks concert, mallcert and weddingcert and there ain’t nobody that can move like that man does. When he shows us that onion of his, the whole crowd thuds. Why that’s why we came to the concert to begin with. Who cares about his music. We all take our hearing aides out before the concert starts anyway so that way we ain’t got anything that might distract us and cause us to miss one second of that onion. I’m just surprised he didn’t win one of them Grammy’s for Onion of the Year. That would have to be the highest honor any real musician could recieve and no one deserves it more than Taylor.

KarenE, I can’t believe those CHROLLS are either. You would think they’d know by now that selling 100 CD’s a week is an accomplishment that Daughtry will never achieve because Chris is not the winner of Season 5. Taylor’s the one with that honor, and no matter how many awards and nominations Daughtry receive, it can never top Taylor winning on a reality show. Plus I bet Daughtry ain’t even won a poll in the last few years. Now if that don’t tell you that they aren’t a success, then nothing does. Who cares how many millions they sell and how many new fans they keep picking up. I happen to know that Taylor picked up five new fans just this last week after I locked the neighbours kids in a room with his CD playing and told them I wouldn’t turn it off till they said he was the next Elvis. It sure didn’t take them long before they recognized that he was and were screeming it as loud as they could until I finally came and let them out. You ain’t never seen kids run so fast to get home, and I’m sure they were going straiight to Amazon when they got there so that they could order a copy of Taylor’s cd for everyone they know.

All of these comments using online names of real Taylor fans are actually made by Daughtry fans. I’d say his fanbase is the craziest by far. They spend all of their days bashing Taylor Hicks because they’re still mad that he won and their favorite was #4. All of the cd’s that he has sold and they still aren’t over it..go figure. They obsess on Taylor more than Taylor’s acutal fans. They even join his fansites and stir up trouble and make backhanded insults at Taylor and his fans, and somehow they even get away with it. For the record, the above post #45 was not made by me. It was made by some deranged psychopathic nut case who has been harassing and posting personal information about Taylor fans wherever she can. She tried to become a member of my private site but I refused to let her in. She was busted on The Official Soul Patrol as a troll because she used the same email address and admitted it.

I can only assume that since you and other members of your fanbase ex: chrisdismine, thanatos, probably MOB have all joined The Official Soul Patrol fansite, A TAYLOR HICKS FANSITE, you are either truly fans of his or else you are just plain PSYCHO…why else would you bother to join and become active members for months on a fansite of someone you can’t stand? You either did it because you are a closet fan or you are there to insult Taylor and his fans which makes you the craziest fanbase in AI history esp since the members of that particular site never even posted on the AI boards or engaged you in any way.

Jewell as I have stated before get your facts straight before you start accusing people of joining Taylor Hicks fansites. I have never joined any of them and only lurked for the first time over on TOSP recently when someone made mention that I had “supposedly joined there” I have better things to do in real life (for example the birth of my premature niece, then to sit and worry about what you guys write about on a Taylor board. I lurked there 3 times matter of fact. Never joined never posted. So try again.

If anyones wanting to know where to get Taylor’s CD, I just found a few hundred copies at my local penny store. They were on super special so they actually paid me to take them, and even threw in a few free packs of Depends. I ain’t talking about the little packs either. They gave me two of the jumbo ones (500 ct.), so I’m all set for when Taylor launches his next Retirement Home tour. That is, unless they’ve moved me to the mental house by then. Harry’s already said she’d get a campus PD escort to take me there, whenever I was ready to go. That was nice of her since I’m kind of scared of them men in white coats.

THINK! The media makes you famous. It’s the music that they (producers, staff, editors, etc.)like and are going to market for $$$. LA is a good example. If they brain wash us into believing a song about dog p___ is the greatest, most of us would go for it! Look at the trash that’s produced and makes it to the top ten.
