NECN Names New News Director (Also Embraces Alliteration)

A few weeks back, we told you about the departure of NECN founder and president Phil Balboni. While it was a blow to the little cable station that can, it hasn’t crippled their operation. In fact, NECN has already established its new hierarchy.

Today, Charles Kravetz — who becomes president and general manager when Balboni officially steps down on March 17 — named Thomas Melville as incoming news director.

Just like Balboni and Kravetz, Melville is a NECN lifer, starting at the station in 1993 as a political reporter before graduating to become an executive producer and, most recently, the assistant news director.

We won’t bore you with the slobber-fest going on right now since the quotes coming out of the station are what you’d expect: NECN loves Melville and Melville loves NECN! Just know that NECN is in good hands moving forward.

Which makes us breathe easy — if NECN went under, who would we whore ourselves out to in order to get our ugly mugs on TV?

NECN’s use of alliteration pales in comparison to Ch. 7. EVERY SINGLE HEADLINE. As you can tell, they’re really starting to irritate me…
