Fair points, Mike and Toshiro. I do think that in a world when the Baseball Prospectus is an annual best-seller, things like this underestimate the so-called casual fan.

I thought the piece was fine. Very typical fare for 60 minutes. Sabermetrics is a big leap for the common/casual baseball fan. Most people don't give credit to the geeks of the world. The piece might make a few people go "hmmm...I guess geeks DO matter."

If you consider the mainstream audience the 60 Minutes piece was intended for, it wasn't that bad. But it was a bit cringe-inducing for baseball fans/stat geeks.

Mike Lowell should be VERY worried about his SAFE values.

I'm hoping that the FJM crew is focusing on the inning and a half JM spent in the booth with GB last night.
