No Monkeying Around on the Campaign Trail

Back when we were in high school, the most controversial t-shirt that featured H.A. Rey’s cartoon monkey Curious George was the one where the little guy passes out after sniffing ether.

1210866324But, a bar owner in Georgia has lowered the discourse even further by placing the monkey’s image on a shirt that reads “Obama in ‘08.” Now the Boston-based publisher that owns the rights to the series of books is considering suing the redneck businessman.

Michele McPhee Goes Hollywood

1210606676It’s been a banner month for local authors and their Hollywood aspirations. Last week Ben Mezrich found out that two more of his books will be made into movies. Now, Boston Daily and Boston magazine contributor Michele McPhee is living the dream as well. Her 2002 book Mob Over Miami has been optioned.

Gov. Patrick Gets a Win

1206717821That was fast. Boston.com reports that Gov. Deval Patrick has scored a deal with Broadway Books. The governor’s autobiography will be released in 2010. Looks like that personal day in New York was worth it after all.

Dreams From New York

1206714977Gov. Deval Patrick said last month that he has no political ambition beyond being governor of the Commonwealth for the foreseeable future, even though he’s one of the most visible surrogates for presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

Not that anyone has ever used the governor’s office to try to jump to a national office or anything, but Patrick didn’t do much to quell the skepticism generated by his announcement by heading off to New York to shop his autobiography as House Speaker Sal DiMasi was savagely killing his casino proposal.

Former RI Sen. Linc Chafee Names Names

1201807787With the excitement of the presidential primaries building as the field of hopefuls in both parties shrinks, it’s easy to forget what this election means—an end to the administration of George W. Bush. Some expressed their frustration with Bush, and his party, by voting for Democrats in the 2006 elections. One of the senators who was swept out of office in this wave of anti-Republican sentiment was former Rhode Island Sen. Lincoln Chafee.

Nearly two years after he left office, Chafee has written a book. And if the rumors that are flying around the media are any indication, it’s going to be a damning tome for members of both parties.
