Rachael Ray Gets Into International Affairs

Rachael Ray is many things. An internationally-known celebrity chef. A talk show host. A possibly-traitorous endorser of Dunkin’ Donuts.

1211899537But we’re pretty sure the Massachusetts native is not a terrorist sympathizer. Yet some conservative bloggers are accusing her of that after she wore a scarf that resembles a kaffiyeh in a Dunkin’ Donuts commercial.

Somerville Tries to Go Green, and Fails

As we’ve learned time and time again, it’s not easy being green. However, it is easy for politicians to cash in on people’s fears that the planet is one incandescent lightbulb away from destruction, by passing new laws that their constituents feel make a difference.

1211394963Somerville’s aldermen know this, and want to require large retail stores to provide recycling bins for unwanted plastic bags. The problem? Nobody knows how the bags will get recycled once they’re collected, according to the Somerville Journal.

Mac Mania

1210944313The line to get in to the Boylston Street Apple Store stretched down Fairfield Street for several blocks for last night’s grand opening. Some determined souls had spent the night in front of the three-floor Mecca of Macs, but most of the people we spoke to showed up sometime during the afternoon.

Though no one seemed to know why.

No Monkeying Around on the Campaign Trail

Back when we were in high school, the most controversial t-shirt that featured H.A. Rey’s cartoon monkey Curious George was the one where the little guy passes out after sniffing ether.

1210866324But, a bar owner in Georgia has lowered the discourse even further by placing the monkey’s image on a shirt that reads “Obama in ‘08.” Now the Boston-based publisher that owns the rights to the series of books is considering suing the redneck businessman.

You Can’t Fire Richard Vitale Because He Quits

1210864445We imagine that every time one of those Southwest ads that ends with “Want to Get Away?” comes on in Sal DiMasi’s household, the Speaker fantasizes about sticking his friend Richard Vitale on one of the gold planes and sending him very, very far away. Every move Vitale makes brings DiMasi’s quartet of ethics investigations back into the news.

Today, the headlines are all about Sal’s Pal quitting his day job at his accounting firm.

It’s Not Easy Shopping Green

1210790796We here at Boston Daily have had our faith in the capitalist system tested today. It seems that companies may be exaggerating the benefits of their green products. For profit!

Oh, the humanity.

Menino Goes Mac

1210782269Boston Daily just got back from a press preview of the spacious Boylston Street Apple Store, which opens tomorrow at 6 p.m. The Fenway Park-inspired facade has been removed, revealing the controversial three-floor glass building that is the largest Apple Store in the United States.

Apple Senior Vice President of Retail Ron Johnson said a few words about the store’s design and educational offerings, and then made way for Mayor Tom Menino to enthuse about the new store.

Gov. Patrick’s Moment of Zen

We love when newspapers try to one-up each other for video/pictures of pols doing ridiculous things.1210706266

Earlier today, the Herald gave us video of Mayor Tom Menino biking around Boston in a totally fetch blue tracksuit. Not to be outdone, our friends at the Cambridge Chronicle deliver a clip of Gov. Deval Patrick playing ping-pong at the new Google offices this afternoon.

Apple Store Will (Allegedly) Open on May 16

1210103288We have a confession to make. Your friends here at Boston Daily are Mac geeks. Flannery and I each got shiny new MacBooks recently, and our loved ones have started to worry about our slavish devotion to the machines. Also, our refusal to put the thing down and get in the shower is starting to bother them. (ed: speak for yourself)

So we’re thrilled beyond words to read (via Universal Hub) that the new Apple store location on Boylston Street is (allegedly) opening on May 16.
