The Safe Homes Initiative Finally “Works”
Boston’s controversial Safe Homes program got off to a rocky start last month. Community leaders and civil libertarians were nervous about the initiative, which allows parents to invite police officers to search their homes for weapons without a warrant. But it didn’t prove to be too much of a problem since nobody was taking advantage of the service.
Until now. Kinda. (Not really.)

Just How Senseless Was The Red Sox-Yankees Accident?
Earlier this week, reports surfaced that 29-year-old Matthew Beaudoin was killed by a drunk driver. The driver, a Yankees fan, was allegedly trying to scare Beaudoin and his friends after a fight over which baseball team was superior, but struck him instead of spooking him.
The incident met with a universal outcry from fans, with some petitioning Red Sox ownership to honor Beaudoin with a day in his honor at Fenway Park. But the late Red Sox fan’s girlfriend tells the Herald that the fight that led to the accident wasn’t about baseball after all.

Violence Is not the Answer to Yankees vs. Red Sox Fans
Times are tough for the New York Yankees and their fans. Hank Steinbrenner has been reduced to cursing about the marketing genius of the Red Sox front office as his team lingers near the basement of the AL East with lowly Toronto. Instead of being greeted with piques of misplaced rage, Yankees fans who wear gear in Boston are now greeted with sympathetic chuckles. But not all the time.
A Nashua, N.H. woman allegedly killed a man after they had a fight about which team is superior.

Ain’t Nothing But a Menino-thing
When we here at Boston Daily think of menacing gestures, we typically think of deploying the middle finger to someone who cuts us off in traffic. But Celtics star Paul Pierce has been dealing with a furor after he flashed a hand signal during Saturday’s game against the Hawks.
Was it a gang signal? An innocent call to arms? Whatever it was, Mayor Tom Menino is down with it.

Roger Clemens: Perv?
We thought Roger Clemens had finished grossing us out. After all, we learned way too much about the pitcher’s palpable mass during his congressional testimony. Then there were questions about whether he bled though his pants. It was disgusting stuff.
But Clemens may outdo himself yet. The Daily News reports that while he was with the Red Sox, Clemens started dating 15-year-old country singer Mindy McCready. [via Daily Intel]

The Domestic Violence Crisis Continues
The year isn’t even half over, and already 10 women have died in domestic homicides. The latest is 29-year-old Barbara Tassinari, whose husband John Tassinari allegedly shot her multiple times on Wednesday night in Abington.
Details of the Tassinari’s relationship are coming out, and it’s sad to see that Barbara’s family didn’t understand how much trouble she was in.

Randi Goldklank: Not Gone Yet
Airplanegate 2008 news continues to break. Ed Ansin, president of WHDH parent company Sunbeam Television, just released another statement on Channel 7 GM Randi Goldklank’s Sunday night tirade at Logan Airport.
We expected to hear she’d been fired. Instead, she’s getting medical treatment. OMG: She’s just like Britney!

Media Meltdown
After a firestorm of local coverage yesterday, Channel 7 was forced to run a story about General Manager Randi Goldklank. You can tell their heart wasn’t really in it, since they didn’t take the time to dream up one of their trademark alliteration-heavy headlines.
If they’re hurting for ideas, viewers have some good suggestions. Like, say, “Klank in the Tank,” which appeared in the comments on Media Nation.

Midair Mayhem
It would be perfect fodder for Channel 7 if it didn’t involve one of its employees. A local TV news executive lands at Logan, screaming her head off and trying to evade arrest when police arrive on the scene.
Unfortunately for the News Station, it was WHDH GM Randi Goldklank who was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after landing at Logan.
