Big Baby Really Likes Manicures

1210785072A couple of weeks ago, we declared that journalism was over when the AP came up with the headline “Powdered cocaine not just for white yuppies anymore.” But now we realize that our declaration was premature. Today’s Herald features a story about our favorite Celtics rookie Glen “Big Baby” Davis and his dedication to well-manicured hands.

Let Your T-Shirt Do the ‘Menacing’ for You

Last week, Celtics captain Paul Pierce set off a storm of controversy after he flashed what may or may not have been a gang sign during Game 3 against the Hawks. The Weekly Dig told us that the sign is “street shit” derived from the three stripes on Adidas sneakers. The Herald dug up a picture of Mayor Tom Menino flashing the sign at an event.

1210088098Just when the fervor had died down, online t-shirt company Chowdaheadz.com has created a t-shirt celebrating Pierce’s “menacing gesture.”

Big Baby: Hand Model

As longtime readers of Boston Daily know, we’re fascinated by Glen “Big Baby” Davis. Whether he’s pondering the genius of Michaelangelo or wiping the parquet with the Pistons, every little thing he does is magic to us.

Which is why we were delighted to learn that Big Baby has endorsed a line of men’s manicure products. Yes, really.

Passion for Fashion at Lord & Taylor

1208970852The most creative use we’ve come up with for our old shopping bags is using them as receptacles for our paper recyclables. But the students at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts have taken Lord & Taylor’s iconic shopping bags from the curb to couture in Passion for Fashion, which is on display through Friday at the Boylston Street location.

Manny Ramirez: Male Model

Red Sox left fielder Manny Ramirez is inspirational in so many ways. His ability to mold his dreadlocks into new and exciting styles, for example. The way he’s embraced his pursuit of spiritual wisdom. And, you know, his ability to hit a baseball really hard.

1207063470But, we never thought we’d look to Manny for style advice. But Macy’s has tapped the baseball star for an ad campaign.

Further Adventures in Zoning Hearing Sartorial Choices

1205435826Yesterday afternoon, the Boston Zoning Commission unanimously approved a proposal that will limit the number of undergrads that can live in an apartment to four. It was all due to the hard work of our MySpace Top Friend, City Councilor Mike Ross. He attended yesterday’s epic meeting but says he doesn’t remember the kid in the orange shirt and Uggs…which still disturbs us.

But he does remember a student who was wearing a loincloth.

Are the Ladies Not Going For Bald Deval?

1202827150As any stupid high school student can tell you, popularity is the most important thing in the world. Which is bad news for Gov. Deval Patrick. Jon Keller reports that the governor’s approval rating is slipping, especially among women. A year ago, an impressive 63 percent of women approved of Patrick’s performance. That number is now down to 47 percent.

Keller believes that women are dissatisfied with Patrick because he endorsed Barack Obama and he’s taking the blame for a stagnating economy. We say it’s something even simpler than that.

It’s his new haircut.

Yes You Can, but It Doesn’t Mean You Should

Dear Gov. Patrick,

1202827150Hello there, Governor. Boston Daily here. We know you’ve been pretty busy lately. Whether you’re campaigning for Sen. Barack Obama or ham-handedly trying to get your casino legislation passed, we doubt you have time to keep up with the gossip rags. But the last time someone shaved their head, it was the beginning of a downward spiral.

Forgive us, but we have to ask: Is everything okay, Governor Patrick?

Kanye West Takes Fashion Advice from Star Simpson?

1202749022Boston’s relationship with LED lights is a tenuous one. Last year, the city was paralyzed with fear when a couple of dirty artists installed Aqua Teen Hunger Force displays that the police thought were bombs. On the positive side, the beloved Citgo Sign in Kenmore Square now uses LED lights instead of neon tubes.

But LED lights were an object of scorn once again after MIT student Star Simpson decided to wear her light-up sweatshirt when she went to pick her boyfriend up at the airport. But the tide may be turning for light-up clothing. Not only are fashionable geeks showing their work in Boston, but at last night’s Grammys rapper Kanye West brought LED lights to the mainstream.
