Happy Free Iced Coffee Day!
Dunkin’ Donuts Free Iced Coffee Day is fast becoming our favorite holiday. The second annual promotion allows any old person to waltz into any Dunkin’ Donuts location and get a free 16-ounce iced coffee between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. today.

Monster Chefs Take Over Fenway Park
The Red Sox may have been playing in Minneapolis last night, but there was still plenty of cheering going on at Fenway Park. The first ever Monster Chef event was held at the EMC Club, and Boston magazine president Dan Scully (we call him el jefe) got in the kitchen to work some magic.

Barbecue for Bartolo Colon’s Debut
As longtime Boston Daily readers know, we love minor league baseball. Whether it’s the Lowell Spinners dubbing the yet-unnamed red-tailed hawk the mascot of its Yankees Elimination Program or the Pawtucket Red Sox handing out donut-themed baseball cards, we come for the inventive promotions and stay for the affordable baseball.
The Paw Sox have a new gimmick that made us chuckle. It’s all-you-can-eat BBQ night on Cinco De Mayo. Which is coincidentally the night that hefty pitcher Bartolo Colon may make his first start for the team.

It’s Jerry Remy’s World. We Just Live in It
In the latest issue of Boston magazine (Mayor Tom Menino’s sexy face is gazing out at you from newsstands now), we asked the city’s power players to tell us who they think are the most important people in town for our Power Wiki.
Several Red Sox-related figures made the list, but NESN color commentator Jerry Remy did not. This may prove to be a massive mistake. It seems that the RemDawg is bent on developing an empire.

The Pour House Dries Up?
When tourists think of Boston landmarks, they often mention the Bunker Hill Monument, the Old North Church, or even the Bull and Finch Pub. But those are small-time compared to one of the city’s greatest monuments—the Pour House.
From college students who take advantage of the half-priced food nights to baseball fans who enjoy one of the bar’s huge beers after a game, it’s a tough place not to like. Which is why we were heartbroken to read the rumors flying around RedSoxNation.net and Yelp that one of our favorite dives was about to close.

The Junk in Jonathan Papelbon’s Trunk
In the fall of last year, Red Sox Nation learned a lot about Jonathan Papelbon. We discovered that his lights-out pitching could withstand the pressure of the postseason. We laughed as he danced a merry jig to the sounds of the Dropkick Murphys. But most importantly, we learned Papelbon has quite the shapely derrière.
Which is why we’re disappointed Dunkin’ Donuts used a stunt butt in a new ad featuring the Sox closer.

Snacking for a Good Cause
After a long cold winter, baseball returns to Boston tomorrow. We’re excited to spend the afternoon at the ballpark, gorging ourselves on Fenway Franks and peanuts. (Though we’re going to avoid washing our food down with bottled Sam Adams.)
If you’re in Kenmore Square tomorrow, be sure to save some room in your dining schedule for a good cause. Alex’s Lemon Krimpets make their debut outside the Sovereign Bank from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

We’re Still Partial to the John Kerry Burger
One of our favorite burger joints, Mr. Bartley’s Burger Cottage in Cambridge has introduced a new treat to its line of politically-influenced burgers: The Spitzer Burger. A Cambridge blog called Bloggin with Mr. Cooper got a photo of an ad at Bartley’s that reads: Hot and Sexy and you save $4,291.01.
We talked to owner Bill Bartley and he said the burger, which has cajun spices and blue cheese, is selling well. He also said he couldn’t wait to introduce it. (more…)

Get Your Green On
We have a love-hate relationship with St. Patrick’s Day. While we warmly embrace any holiday that’s all about drink and men in kilts, the amateurs who can’t handle their liquor ruin it for everyone. So to enhance the experience, we’ll review how to enjoy your holiday without pissing us off safely.

Farewell, Fudgie
We here at Boston Daily have celebrated many a birthday with our friend Fudgie the Whale. The Carvel classic ice cream cake is made with a layer of chocolate ice cream, another of vanilla, those delicious chocolate crunchies, and then surrounded by fudge and icing.
But our favorite frozen whale won’t be as fresh as it once was. Carvel is closing its Marlborough factory and will manufacture its treats in Connecticut.
