With Friends Like This…
Things haven’t been going so well for Barack Obama lately. The Illinois Senator was once the golden boy of the Democratic nomination race, getting softball questions and making ladies swoon. Fast forward a few months and he’s been called an elitist by Mitt Romney (!), had to disavow his minister, and is under fire for the gas tax holiday thing.
In trying times, people tend to rely on their friends for support. But Obama BFF Gov. Deval Patrick is only making life harder for his beleaguered friend. The Associated Press checked up on a claim the Governor made about donating to Obama’s senatorial campaign in 1995 and can’t find any proof Patrick made the donation.

Mitt Romney: Comedian
The Radio and Television Correspondents’ Association dinner hasn’t been must-see TV since Stephen Colbert went in and lampooned the Bush Administration as the president sat mere feet away. But the annual dinner got some of its humor back with a surprise appearance from former governor Mitt Romney, who stole David Letterman’s routine and presented the Top 10 reasons he dropped out of the race.

Mitt Romney: Still Flip-Flopping
You may remember back in January when AP writer Glen Johnson got Mitt Romney to flip out on the campaign trail. Since Romney dropped out of the race, Johnson’s been writing about the Big Dig and getting John Kerry to tell the Democrats to calm down.
But today Johnson is doing what he does best—calling out Mitt Romney.

Will Mitt Romney Be Vice President After All?
We haven’t been this confused since rumors about what may have been the nuptials of Jay-Z and Beyonce started swirling. Last week, it looked like former governor Mitt Romney had finally resigned himself to the idea that he would not be asked to be John McCain’s running mate.
But today the media is buzzing with rumors that Republican power players want to see a McCain/Romney ticket.

Mitt Romney: Radio Talk Show Host?
We’ve had a lot of fun at the expense of our former governor, Mitt Romney. We laughed at the idea that he’s tanning more than Lindsay Lohan. We poked at the fact that he is completely incapable of picking a winner. And we winced as he let the dogs out with a group of black kids.
But the one thing we’d never say about the handsome former (and future?) presidential candidate is that he has a face for radio. Yet that’s where Romney was this morning, filling in for Paul Harvey. [Via Universal Hub]

The Man Who Will Not Be Vice President
Mitt Romney is not a man who is known for his sense of self-awareness, but even he knows that he is not going to be Vice President. If he had any hope at all of being the Dick Cheney to John McCain’s President Bush, he wouldn’t be talking in such absolutes about not being on McCain’s short list of potential running mates.
But Romney’s detractors want to make it clear that they don’t want Mitt in the running.

Mitt Romney Gives Up The Ghost?
When we last saw former governor Mitt Romney, he looked like a regal Oompa Loompa as he campaigned with presumptive Republican nominee John McCain. Today Romney resurfaced on MSNBC to talk about why the Arizona Senator should be America’s next president.
But the most telling thing from Romney’s appearance may be that he downplayed his chances at being McCain’s running mate.

Mitt Romney Turns Orange
If we’d spent a year on the presidential campaign trail, feigning enthusiasm for the very young and the very old while eating tasteless chicken dinners, we’d need a vacation. Since the bulk of the campaigning happens in New Hampshire, we’d opt for someplace warm. Preferably near a pool and a stocked liquor cabinet.
It seems Mitt Romney took some time after his defeat to soak up some rays. When he surfaced on Thursday to campaign in the West with John McCain he looked as orange as Lindsay Lohan.

McCain to Hit the Trail (With Romney)
We don’t ask for much at Boston Daily: A couple of good controversies, a little public sniping between elected officials, and the hilarity that is the Cambridge City Council and we’re good to go. But if we were to ask the Blog Gods for anything it would be a return to public life for Mitt Romney.
Even better, Romney sharing the stage with (gulp) John McCain. Thank you, Blog Gods. (more…)
