OMG, you guys, the New Kids on the Block’s new single is online! Finally, after more than a decade of waiting, Joey, Danny, Jordan, Jonathan, and Donnie are back with new material. Get out your old oversized pins and give it a listen.
With Opening Day tomorrow, we can’t help but get a little sentimental for some of the players who’ve come and gone in the past few years. One player that we miss for both his pitching and his musical abilities is Bronson Arroyo.
But the former Sox pitcher, and A-Rod slap victim, is doing well for himself in Cincinnati. Not only is he still pitching baseballs, but he’s using his creative side to pitch products.
We’re all about New Kids hype today, and while it’s a fun diversion for some, the truly devoted fans have already developed their excuses to get out of work early so they can head to the KISS 108 studios for a live appearance from Joey, Jordan, Donnie, Danny, and Jonathan.
April 4 is an important day in American history. Today we celebrate an institution that changed America forever. It’s a time for us all to reflect back on what this giant of history means for us as individuals, and as a nation.
Huge New Kids fan John Gonzalez called into Boston Daily HQ to alert us about the band’s appearance on the Today Show. He told us the band was introduced (video here) to the screams of adoring fans. Then host Meredith Viera kicked it to Al Roker, who was standing by with Rev. Al Sharpton to talk about the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.(more…)
It sounds like the premise for a horrible midseason reality TV show on FOX. Two former reality show contestants, a music producer, an actor, and a real estate developer take the stage in a bid to resurrect their 20-year-old band. But, in fact, it is the premise of something awesome.
Incredibly sad news out of Michigan today. Tim Haslett, a fixture in the Boston music scene for years, was found dead in his MSU apartment late last week. I had the pleasure of knowing Tim a bit, and always greatly enjoyed talking to him, even if he completely lost all concept of time when letting loose on a topic that interested him, and wound up eating your entire afternoon.
I met Tim at a failed startup called iCAST.com, an “entertainment portal”, where he was enlisted to drive coverage of rap and dance music. He had been working for Spin (I think), his knowledge of music was encyclopedic, and his way of speaking was both weird, witty, deadpan, and always surprising. He could be absolutely hilarious. Last night’s special screening of On Broadway reminded us that despite its big-city status, Boston is a surprisingly small town. As we entered the lobby of the Regal Fenway Cinemas, we caught a glimpse of our first love, Joey McIntyre, as he mugged with writer-director Dave McLaughlin and fellow costar Mike O’Malley. And when we took our seats in the theater, we saw a woman who looked oddly familiar.
As it turns out, we’ve been close to Joey Mac for months and never even knew it.
It’s become a tradition for Bostonians to try and catch the Dropkick Murphys on St. Patrick’s Day. But much like trying to get Red Sox tickets the day of a game, it’s nearly impossible. You find yourself saddling up to the bar at the Cask, humbled and defeated.
But you have another option this St. Patrick’s Day. Don Imus is coming to town for his 9th Annual “Kiss Me I’m Imus” broadcast.
One of our favorite songs to play air guitar on is Boston’s “More Than a Feeling.” The song is apparently also a favorite of Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee. The former Arkansas governor, and bass player, has used the song at his campaign stops and even performed it on the stump.
We hope he enjoyed it while he had the chance. Boston bassist Tom Scholz has demanded that Huckabee stop using the band’s song.
Yesterday, we were delighted to report that New Kids on the Block was planning a reunion tour. It brought up all kinds of traumatic childhood memories, those first crushes on non-threatening (except Donnie!) young men, and the need to dig through the boxes of childhood belongings we left at our parents’ house.
Alas, it may have all been for naught. One member of NKOTB refutes the rumors.
