Update: Alpha Omega Goes Dark
Phoning in from the Pru, gymrat71 reports that the lights are out at the Alpha Omega outpost there. Calls to stores in Burlington and Harvard Square went unanswered. At the brand new Natick Collection boutique, voice mail told us it was no longer accepting messages. Handa’s own cell phone is live, but no one picks up.
We’ve also learned a little more about Handa’s financial situation.
According to the Mass. Land records for Middlesex County South/Lexington, Handa took out a mortgage for an undisclosed sum on his Lexington home on November 16, 2007—just barely over a month ago. That’s on top of two existing mortgages Handa already had in place totaling a heady $2.3 million. According to the Lexington Town Tax Assessor, that amount exceeds the house’s actual value, currently set at $2.02 million.

Dont you think the coverage of this is alittle over the top for a magazine read in doctors offices? you arent even the herald yet you pretend like you are Brian Williams cracking the case. he maybe a terrible guy and horrible employer but he paid Your salaries for a very long time with pages of ads in a ROW in your mag. he was YOUR BEST of boston every year, including this one. and you sell him out like this? how could any of your advertisers have faith in a magazine that would sell out information to the globe about their advertiser and vendor practices? Let the reporting be done by REAL PROFESSIONALS like a News paper, and please let me know when your next issue of where it is “hip” to get a coffee in the South end is released thank you.

They owed a ton of money to Boston Magazine in advertising bills. The knuckle heads at the Magazine let them run up a $250K tab. Obviously you can buy a Best of Boston award.
