Night Lines: Wednesday’s Double Feature

1204218181Though party throwers have as of late gone with Tuesday as their weeknight of choice, this week, Wednesday was the big night for hitting the town.

First, we found ourselves at Bar 10, at the Copley Westin, to celebrate the release of Boston’s March issue. A particularly lively and thirsty crowd reflected the issue’s subject matter. Members of 20-guy punk band Bang Camaro—and our spring fashion models—sipped girly cocktails with manly swagger.

Nearby, Tonya Mezrich, wife of author Ben Mezrich, who receives a buzzy profile in the new issue, got Bostonista pumped up for the Monday screening of 21, the movie adaptation of Mezrich’s book Bringing Down the House (starring Kate Bosworth), and the much-hyped A-list party that will follow. Bostonista admired her wardrobe options for the event, all by local designer Michael DePaulo. (Check back Tuesday for a report on those festivities.) (more…)

Night Lines: When Nerds, Fashion, and Manny Delcarmen Collide

1201796307Bostonista doesn’t need another reason to adore the Museum of Science, but last night’s event, Seamless: Computation Couturethe sold-out nerdfest-meets-design fashion showsealed the deal. Project Runway castoff Steven Rosengard, whose ill-fated encounter with glue and a wedding dress led to his dismissal on Episode 5, emceed the show filled with algorithm-produced knitwear, WiFi-detecting jackets, and solar-paneled necklaces.

First conceived by the Weekly Dig’s lifestyle editor, Christine Liu, and buddy Nick Knouf in 2005, Seamless has ballooned from its humble beginnings at the MIT Media Lab into a 1,000+ throng of grad-student types, fashion mavens, and odd characters (yes, we mean you with the LED-woven bathrobe and hat). Night Lines: Museum Moments

1200682642 Okay, so there wasn’t a lot of food, but the 500-odd partygoers didn’t let that ruin their good time at the ICA on Tuesday night. The occasion was our first ever Best of Boston Home issue (shameless plug), and the guests were winners, losers, and anyone else wearing architect-y looking glasses.

Welcoming this ultra-hip crowd was the eclectic acid-surf band, The Weisstronauts, who played two sets in front of the ICA’s latest art-wall project, created by Dave Muller, looking at the evolution of rock n’ roll. (Well, that’s how the website explains it, anyway.)

Though the galleries were closed (we couldn’t afford the security guards, and they knew at least one of our esteemed guests would try to rip off that 10-ton Louise Bourgeois spider), there was still plenty to look at, including a multi-media trip through the pages of the magazine and an ice-sculpture bar shaped like a brick fireplace, complete with a faux “dancing flame.” (more…)

Death of the Party: Top Cab’s Bad Form

1197046005You might assume that Boston magazine editors get certain perks and/or are constantly lavished with kiss-assery, especially around Best of Boston time. But when trying, desperately, to get to the Shops at the Heritage on the Garden for a shopping event Bostonista was hosting last night, the sweet dispatchers at Top Cab all but refused to help us out, promising to show up within 15 minutes. 35 minutes later, when we called to check on our cab’s status, we were hung up on not once, but twice. Night Lines: Best of Boston Beauty with a Dash of Bling

1196875620For last night’s Best of Boston Beauty event, Boston’s marketing team asked me to emcee a little fashion show on fun/festive/holiday dresses in the “Bebe Style Lounge.” Sure? Why not? Naturally, that meant I, too, would be donning Bebe for the evening. And while I wouldn’t describe myself as a Bebe girl (I can’t say I’ve ever worn so much plastic pizzazz), as you can see, the dress itself was certainly a party.

Night Lines: The ICA Bash

1196789016The Liberty Hotel set the standard for the season with its over-the-top November opening bash (champagne and mug shots, anyone?). Last night, the ICA more than measured up with its on-site one-year anniversary party, complete with a New York-worthy runway show by Salvatore Ferragamo.

Bostonista braved the cold and traveled to Southie—in a collective eight inches of heel—to survey the scene at the city’s newest museum. Despite the plastic wineglasses, the vibe was cool luxury in the made-over lobby. (more…)
