Blogging Project Runway: And Then There Were Three

1204298445SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t seen episode 12 of Project Runway, season 4, you might want to stop reading now.

In what has become a highlight of each season, Tim Gunn began the show by visiting the remaining four designers as they prepared their collections for New York Fashion Week. Unfortunately this episode did not provide the geographic exploration as seen in previous seasons (Uli in Miami! Jay in Pennsylvania!), as all but Rami had been living and working in New York City. The New York-centricity of the episode was driven home when Jillian invited Tim to visit her family—all the way on Long Island. Jillian’s mother once visited a clairvoyant, she said, who told her that one of her children was to be famous. We wished we’d met the psychic, too. (more…)

Blogging Project Runway: Straight to the Art

1203602378SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t seen episode 11 of Project Runway, Season 4, you might want to stop reading now.

Bostonista had a premonition all season long that a fine-art themed challenge was in the works. This week, we realized our Spidey sense was on the right track when the designers and Tim Gunn darted to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, charged with creating a look inspired by a work of art in the museum. Blogging Project Runway: They Blinded Me With Spandex

1202749838SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t seen episode 10 of Project Runway, season 4, you might want to stop reading now.

Project Runway’s week off yielded a meet and greet with Steven Rosengard, as well as a terrific Tim Gunn appearance on The Daily Show (we can tell you’ve got a man-crush, Jon, and we are with you!). All very enlightening, but we were still glad when the show returned this past Wednesday. It was an episode not to be watched lying down.

Bostonista sprung into proper posture when the challenge was revealed—to create a fashion-forward outfit for a WWE diva—and nearly spilled Swiss Miss on our couture when Tim Gunn threaded his lanky frame into the makeshift Project Runway boxing ring. “Grandpa has difficulty with these ropes,” he joked. Blogging Project Runway: Interview with Steven Rosengard

1201883269Project Runway is on hiatus this week, and that’s usually enough to make Bostonista leave the house in sweats. But as luck would have it, current season contestant Steven Rosengard came to us in person instead! We caught up with the gracious designer Wednesday night at the Museum of Science’s Seamless computational couture event, which he emceed.

He is taller than Bostonista expected, but the mannerisms and facial expressions are just as we remembered. “Who are you wearing tonight, Steven?” we asked, hearts aflutter. Obviously, Steven has great taste. His custom suit was from Andrea Vangna, he told us, pointing out the “unnecessary” but “delightful” pocket he’d requested in the jacket. (more…)

Blogging Project Runway: Indigo Girls

1201270079SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t watched episode 9 of Project Runway, Season 4, you might want to stop reading now.

This Bostonista reporter took the day off yesterday (and uncovered this blog, rejoice!), so was well-rested for watching the show last night. A pre-show flash of scenes hinted that the challenge was denim. Turns out it involved yet another mad 3-minute dash for outfit parts—a somewhat tired charade—but the challenge was nonetheless satisfying, with designers asked to use pairs of Levi’s jeans to create a modernized version of the iconic 501.
