Let Your Geek Flag Fly, MIT

1220896881Star Simpson aside, we love the braniacs over at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. When they’re not busy developing 6-D images or other innovations, the kids indulge in some truly inventive pranks, like putting random vehicles, animals, and designs on the Great Dome.

So we’re sad to learn that some students are trying to refute the school’s reputation as being a haven for geeks. That’s just not right.

It’s like asking Harvard students not to be entitled. You might as well ask Emerson kids not to be shamelessly opportunistic.

Deemphasizing the nerdy nature of MIT is as futile as asking Northeastern kids not to cause riot when a local sports team wins a championship. A quest to find a non-geeky student in Kendall Square is like finding a Boston University student who isn’t buying their Abercrombie threads on Daddy’s credit card, or a Boston College student without a popped collar.

Each local college attracts a certain kind of student, and we love to mock each of them in their own special way. So keep playing Dungeons and Dragons, MIT students. We like you just the way you are.
